Buying Advice

Last Updated: October 16, 2020

Climbing Demand: Several of the most popular pickup trucks have felt their sales decline during the Coronavirus pandemic, but demand for the Sierra has remained healthy. Sierra sales have grown this year, with dealerships selling 6.8 percent more Sierra truck models compared to the same period in 2019. The Sierra still has a way to go before reaching leaders like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, both of which are outselling the Sierra over 2 to 1.

Competitive Prices: Like most full size trucks, the GMC Sierra comes available in a wide array of configurations and prices. At the entry level, a base Sierra has a $29,600 MSRP, which is close to $2,000 below the segment average for similarly-equipped trucks. At the high end of the spectrum, a top-trim Sierra Denali starts at $58,600, about $700 below the average MSRP for fully-loaded trucks. With such a wide range of choice, there is a GMC Sierra configuration available for just about any truck shopper.

Time to Buy: Demand for the Sierra is healthy at the moment, so finding a price below sticker may be tough. It also doesn’t rank well among full size trucks, so we recommend shopping around before making a final decision. The Ford F-150 is currently our top-ranked truck, and it also has a lower starting MSRP than the Sierra, so it’s worth a close look and a test drive. Either way, make sure to check out the GMC and Ford deals pages to see how you can save even more with finance and lease incentives. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, check out a used model. When you’re ready to buy, use the U.S. News Best Price Program to find the dealership in your area with the lowest price. Many dealerships are offering remote buying services to combat the spread of Coronavirus. Contact your local dealer directly for details.
