2013 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid was new.

Interior: 7.4

Reviewers say that the 2013 GMC Sierra Hybrid’s interior is spacious, well-equipped and has decent interior materials. One notes that many of the materials are hard plastic, but says this is in keeping with the full-size pickup class as a whole.

  • "The interior is sized like American sedans of yore - it's Texas and Alaska in a world crammed full of Rhode Island and Delaware cars." -- HybridCars.com
  • "Sierra Hybrid's interior materials are on-par with other large-pickup rivals, even though most surfaces are hard plastic." -- Consumer Guide
  • "In 3HA trim, the Sierra Hybrid is a truck with a solid supply of equipment and functional decor that is well fortified in black plastic trim. The 3HB trim is more attractive thanks to a center console, leather bucket seats, power-adjustable pedals and upgraded audio." -- Edmunds

The base Sierra Hybrid seats up to six people on cloth seats with a front bench seat, while the upper trim seats five with front bucket seats and leather upholstery. A power driver’s seat is optional in the base trim and standard in the upper trim. Most critics agree that the Sierra Hybrid’s cabin is spacious and comfortable for those riding in either the front or back. One reviewer mentions that back-seat comfort would benefit from a more angled seatback. Another says that outward visibility is good.

  • "Combined with the rear bench, this configuration can seat up to six. Grab the premium 3HB and you'll find comfortable leather bucket seats for the driver and the front companion. Regardless of model choices, this is a crew cab and there's enough head, should and leg room that even with six people there's a feeling of spaciousness." -- HybridCars.com
  • "Otherwise, the 2012 Sierra Hybrid's crew cab treats its passengers as expected, with a quiet ride and roomy seating, although the rear comfort level could be improved with a better seatback angle." -- Edmunds (2012)
  • "Ample room for adults. Both the bucket and bench seats lack side support in fast turns but are firm and comfortable. Visibility is generally good. Short drivers will appreciate the available power-adjustable pedals." -- Consumer Guide (2012)

Interior Features

The Sierra Hybrid comes with standard equipment that compares with the gas-only Sierra 1500’s mid-level SLE trim, rather than the bare-bones work truck trim. Standard equipment includes power windows, door locks and mirrors, satellite radio, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. Features available as stand-alone options or in the upper 3HB trim include rear parking sensors, a backup camera, a power sunroof, navigation and a Bose stereo.

Reviewers generally like the Sierra Hybrid’s intuitive, simple radio and climate controls. One critic is pleased that opting for the navigation system doesn’t complicate adjusting the temperature or stereo controls.

  • "The dashboard is simple with large controls - from the door handles to the radio and climate control knobs, most can be operated wearing work gloves. It's a basic design, but logical and pleasant." -- HybridCars.com
  • "The gauges are easy to see and read. The available navigation system absorbs some audio controls but doesn't complicate their use. The navigation screen features a helpful energy flow display that indicates the status of the vehicle's gas/electric system." -- Consumer Guide (2012)

The 2013 Sierra Hybrid comes exclusively with a 5.75-foot bed. The longer 6.5-foot and 8-foot beds offered on the gas-only Sierra 1500 are unavailable. The base 3HA trim comes with a soft bed cover, while the higher 3HB trim gets a hard bed cover. The back seat bottom cushions flip up to create inside load space. One reviewer mentions that the battery pack cuts into the available back-seat cargo space somewhat. Other critics are pleased with the large center console.

  • "A bonus is a large double glove box and lockable storage bin, big enough for a laptop (with its own 12-volt power outlet), built into the split front bench seat." -- HybridCars.com
  • "The rear-seat cushion flips back against the seat back, leaving a large cargo area with a nearly flat floor. In front, the bucket seats come with a roomy console bin, while the bench seat is available with a flip-down center armrest that doubles as a large storage bin. Otherwise, there are few other interior storage cubbies." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
  • "While the cushion portion of the rear seat hinges up, the space available for cargo in the back of the crew cab is diminished by the battery pack." -- Automobile Magazine (2009)
