2015 GMC Acadia Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 GMC Acadia was new.

Interior: 6.6

Reviewers say the 2015 GMC Acadia has a well-made, luxurious interior with high-quality materials. Some note that while the Acadia has the exterior of a sport utility vehicle, its interior matches some Cadillacs’, especially in higher trims. They also note that small touches to the interior, such as contrast stitching, add to an overall pleasant aesthetic.

  • "Sharing the same platform as the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave, the 2015 GMC Acadia 8-passenger SUV diverges from its cousins with a more rugged exterior appearance and near-Cadillac-like luxury, especially in Denali trim." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Acadia features an attractive interior, as most of the surfaces you're likely to touch or lean an elbow on are padded and of solid quality." -- Edmunds
  • "Build quality is impressive, and soft materials feel nice to the touch. French stitching and red ambient lighting add a bit of class." -- Consumer Guide (2014)

The 2015 GMC Acadia comes with seating for eight in three rows. Higher trims have two captain’s chairs in the second row, which reduces seating capacity to seven. Cloth seating is standard, and leather seating, power-adjustable front seats and heated and cooled front seats are available. Most critics praise the Acadia’s seats, saying that the first and second rows are comfortable and supportive, and that the third row offers enough space for adults. However, some reviewers think the middle-row seats are not very comfortable because they’re mounted too low, and that legroom in the third row is only plentiful as long as the second row seats are slid forward. A few auto writers comment that the rearview camera aids visibility, but that blind spot alert would be helpful on all trims.

  • "Front occupants will enjoy abundant head- and legroom, as will most second-row occupants, but the middle row seat cushions are mounted low, reducing comfort for adults. Sliding those seats all the way back alleviates this issue, but effectively kills third-row legroom." -- Edmunds
  • "GMC's engineers have gone out of their way to quiet the Acadia's cabin, and the effort has paid off in spades. The Acadia's luxurious cabin coddles every occupant, and even those in the 3rd-row will find the seats supportive and comfortable." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "This large rig offers lots of space up front, and seats are large, comfortable, and supportive. Entry and exit are easy, and thick pillars don't restrict over-the-shoulder visibility as much as one might expect. The rearview camera is a welcome standard feature. We wish that blind-spot alert, standard on the top two trims, were at least available on the others." -- Consumer Guide (2014)

Interior Features

The 2015 GMC Acadia comes standard with a rearview camera, keyless entry, a USB port, Bluetooth phone connectivity, rear parking sensors, a six-speaker audio system with a 6.5-inch touch screen and satellite radio. Navigation, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a dual-panel sunroof, GMC’s IntelliLink infotainment system, a rear-seat entertainment system, forward collision alert, blind zone alert, lane departure warning, side blind zone alert and rear cross traffic alert are available.

According to reviewers, the Acadia finds a good balance between functionality and fun-to-use features. Many critics think the IntelliLink infotainment system, which controls the entertainment, phone and navigation features in upgraded Acadia models, is intuitive and clearly laid out. However, some say the touch screen can be slow to process user inputs and that the system takes time to master.

  • "IntelliLink controls the entertainment, phone and navigation functions in most Acadia models. It provides smartphone radio app integration and features a clean layout and intuitive menu structure but it is sometimes slow to process touch inputs (and in a few instances, wholly unresponsive), which can make it frustrating to use." -- Edmunds
  • "While the Buick Enclave is the most upscale and the Chevrolet Traverse focuses more on utility, the GMC Acadia bridges the two by offering an even mix of practicality and rich user content." -- Autotrader
  • "The available IntelliLink radio combines a colorful touchscreen and capacitive-touch ‘buttons’ with traditional volume and tuning knobs to govern its many functions. The touchscreen's icons are clear and large, but learning how to fully operate this system will likely take a while." -- Consumer Guide (2014)

The 2015 GMC Acadia has 24.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats, which expands to 70.1 cubic feet with the third row folded and 116.1 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The Acadia has one of the largest cargo areas in its class, and offers more space than some large SUVs, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Nissan Armada. Reviewers say that the cargo space is so expansive that even with the third row in use, the Acadia still has room for luggage and gear.

  • "So spacious is the Acadia, in fact, that it can seat up to eight passengers and still retain a reasonable amount of cargo room." -- Autotrader
  • "Along those highways, you'll be able to carry quite a bit of luggage, too, as the Acadia has one of the most spacious interiors in the class." -- Edmunds
  • "An unexpected benefit is the Acadia's surprisingly spacious cargo area. Even with the 3rd-row seat in place it really will hold eight people and a good percentage of their gear." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Among vehicles in our midsize-SUV class, Acadia and Traverse are head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to cargo volume, offering a maximum of 116 cubic feet of space. The 2nd and 3rd rows easily fold to create a flat load floor." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
