2011 GMC Acadia Review

With seating for eight, the 2011 GMC Acadia can hold more people than most other crossovers and has more cargo space than most other SUVs in its class, however, its cabin is made with some cheap materials.

Pros & Cons

  • Tons of cargo space and roomy third row
  • Good safety score
  • Sparsely equipped base model
  • Some cheap interior materials

2011 GMC Acadia Overview

When it was new, test drivers said the eight-seat 2011 GMC Acadia’s interior is comfortable and roomy, and they appreciated the Acadia’s attractive design inside and out. The Acadia also has one of the largest cargo areas in the class. Standard features on the 2011 Acadia are basic, including OnStar and satellite radio, but available features and higher trim levels can make the Acadia significantly more luxurious, including leather seats, navigation, heated and cooled seats, rear-seat entertainment, power liftgate and a rearview camera.

The GMC Acadia comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and front- or all-wheel drive. According to the EPA, all-wheel drive doesn’t affect the Acadia’s fuel economy very much. As a result, the Acadia is a smart choice if you need loads of space and all-wheel drive grip. The Acadia also performed well in crash tests.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re shopping for the GMC Acadia, you should add its corporate cousin, the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse, to your list. While they are very similar, reviewers showered more praise on the Traverse’s performance and interior.

The 2011 Toyota Highlander wins serious points for its strong safety score, and test drivers liked its power with the optional V6 engine. If you don’t need the V6’s horsepower, sticking with the base four-cylinder engine will save you some cash at the pump. You won’t be able to find a Highlander that’s kitted-out like an Acadia Denali, and the Highlander doesn’t offer as much passenger or cargo space, but if you’re looking for a safe, dependable SUV, the 2011 Highlander is a smart choice.
