2019 Genesis G90 Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.7

The 2019 Genesis G90 features plenty of quality materials inside, and while it may not measure up to the nicest cabins in the class, this Genesis certainly lives up to its luxury billing. The seats are spacious and comfortable, and there are plenty of easy-to-use tech features. However, the trunk is smaller than most rivals'.

  • "The G90's cabin isn't as nice as that of a Mercedes S-Class, but it might pleasantly surprise you. The leather upholstery is soft and supple, and all the surfaces that are wrapped in it are tight and wrinkle-free. The switchgear lacks a little heft but achieves the right look." -- Edmunds
  • "If the G90 has a calling card, it's inside, where the interior is full of both quality materials and features. I was able to find some hard plastic trim on the transmission tunnel, but I had to look for it – the rest of the touch points are leather or other soft material. And those are fantastic, some of the best I've experienced." -- Cars.com (2017)
  • "Whether you're judging by the materials used, how they're assembled, or just how it all looks, the Genesis G90 interior is masterfully luxurious." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

Seating

This Genesis seats five people. All G90 models come with Nappa leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Ventilated rear seats and power-adjustable rear seats are available. Unlike some rivals, including the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Lincoln Continental, the G90 does not offer massaging seats.

Both rows of seats provide plenty of passenger space, and you can fit three adults in the back with ease. The seats are comfortable and supportive, making the G90 a great choice whether you're on your daily commute or a long road trip.

There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. The tether anchors are easy to find and identify. The lower anchors don't require a lot of force when attaching car-seat straps, but they are set a bit too deep in the seat.

  • "The front seats have good stretch-out room, and even with a raised center console, the G90 doesn't feel claustrophobic. The rear seats have generous amounts of leg- and headroom, and the fold-up center armrest/control center makes it possible for three adults to sit abreast in relative comfort." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "The four outboard seats are heated and ventilated (the latter only in the V-8) as well as eminently comfortable and supportive, particularly the 22-way-adjustable driver's throne." -- Car and Driver (2017)
  • … I'm pampered with a fine leather-covered, 22-way power adjustable driver seat with heating and cooling functions. Lucky rear seat passengers get over a yard of legroom. However, the lack of massage seat functions, and the small sunroof with a (gasp!) manually operated shade tarnish the shine on this cabin." -- CNET (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features include a sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, and an infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 17-speaker Lexicon audio system, satellite radio (which requires a subscription after three months), Bluetooth, multiple USB ports, and navigation. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system with two 10.3-inch screens is available.

Standard driver assistance features include a head-up display, driver drowsiness monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams.

In addition to the touch screen, there are physical buttons you can use to control some of the infotainment system's functions. Overall, the system works well, and the menu layouts are generally intuitive, except when you try and navigate through your phone's media library. That can be frustrating, and it makes the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto more apparent.

  • "With the exception of navigating through your smartphone media library, the G90 controls are easy to operate without a user manual. There isn't anything unique or innovative about the infotainment system, but from the driver aids to the climate controls, everything is easily accessible." -- Edmunds
  • There is no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and Genesis said that there are no plans to add it in the future. But to be honest, in this application, I didn't really miss them. The Genesis system makes up for their absence with features like the ability to send directions from your phone to the car. The screen and controls are responsive to inputs and I was able to find the appropriate menus easily." -- Cars.com (2017)
  • "The list of standard conveniences goes on and on: carbon-dioxide sensor that directs fresh air into the cabin if C02 builds to a level that could reduce alertness, wireless cell-phone charging in the center console, a heated steering wheel, power rear-seat sunshades, and ... well, if you can name it, the Genesis G90 probably has it." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Cargo

The Genesis G90 gives you 15.7 cubic feet of trunk space. Most luxury large cars provide more space, and class leaders like the Audi A7 and Tesla Model S, both of which are actually hatchbacks, have roughly 10 extra cubic feet of cargo room. On the bright side, the G90's wide, low trunk opening makes it easy to load items. A hands-free power trunk lid comes standard. The rear seats don't fold down (though there is a pass-through for skis), but that's common in this class.

  • At 15.7 cubic feet, the trunk is slightly smaller than those of rivals. But it is wide at the entry and preserves most of its width toward the rear seats. There's a fairly low liftover and a ski pass-through, too." -- Edmunds (2018)
