2018 Genesis G80 Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.7

The 2018 Genesis G80 is full of soft-touch materials and has a stylish design. It has luxurious finishes with high-quality leather upholstery and wood and available carbon-fiber trim. The G80's seats are comfortable and spacious, and the infotainment system is a breeze to operate. Cargo space is above average for the class, but the lack of a split-folding rear seat limits cargo-carrying versatility.

  • "Materials on the dash, doors and seats are as good as any in the class, and there's not a visible interior piece or panel with even a whiff of cost-cutting. Meticulous level of assembly matches just about any premium German or Japanese sedan." -- Edmunds
  • "One of the coolest additions on the G80 Sport model is the real carbon-fiber trim inside—it's a rich touch and a good complement to the other G80 models' matte wood trim. The Sport trim also introduces copper accents to the G80, and we'll probably see the detail on a sportier version of the upcoming G70 four-door. Inside, the accents amount to copper stitching on the seats and steering wheel, as well as copper trim on the analog clock that sits in the center of the dash." -- Motor Trend
  • "The first thing you notice after climbing behind the G80's wheel is the pervasive air of quality. The cabin is airy and spacious; it's roomier than such competitors as the Cadillac CTS, the Lexus GS, and the Mercedes E-Class. Fit and finish are top notch. The seats are covered in first-rate perforated leather with attractive contrasting piping. Handsome matte-finish grained wood adorns the dash." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Seating

The 2018 G80 seats five on standard leather upholstery. Other standard features include heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Available features include a 16-way power-adjustable driver's seat, front sport seats, a sport steering wheel, premium leather upholstery, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The G80 provides good outward visibility and comfortable seats. The front and rear seats have plenty of legroom, even for taller passengers. However, headroom in the back is somewhat cramped.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors in the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor in the middle seat. The top tethers are easy to access and connect, but the lower anchors can be difficult to find.

  • "The Genesis G80 for 2018 includes a leather-lined, 5-passenger interior among the roomiest in its class, making it a pleasurable place for all occupants." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Rear legroom is comparable to that of other sedans, although tighter rear headroom is a knock against this otherwise stand-out cabin." -- Edmunds
  • "Riding in the G80 is a pleasant experience; it does a good job with sound isolation from the outside world, and I found the seats to be comfortable both front and back." -- Cars.com (2017)

Interior Features

Standard advanced safety features in the G80 include a rearview camera, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Proximity entry, Bluetooth, satellite radio, two USB ports, HD Radio, a seven-speaker sound system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 4.3-inch driver information display, navigation, an 8-inch touch screen, a push-button start, and real-time traffic, weather, fuel prices, and movie and sports information are also standard. Available features include a multi-angle camera, front and rear park assist, adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, alloy sport pedals, a wireless charging pad, a 17-speaker sound system, a 9.2-inch touch screen, a 7-inch driver-information display, and a head-up display.

The G80's infotainment system is easy to use, with intuitive menus and an organized layout. The touch screen is responsive, and there are physical knobs and buttons to control system functions as well. Additionally, frequently used controls are easy to access and not buried within the system's menus.

  • "A sprinkling of other new features, such as adaptive LED headlights and wireless device charging, add to the G80's already impressive list of standard and optional features, a list that fetches far more money when equipped on similar luxury sedans. And therein lies the appeal of the G80, a car where your money goes much further." -- Edmunds
  • "In addition to its sheer space, we appreciate the Genesis' layout. Though it offers all the trappings of a luxury car – climate-controlled seats, power-rear window shade, and center-mounted touch-screen display that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphones – controls are remarkably easy to use. The G80 also offers buttons and knobs that are a snap to use." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "An 8-inch LCD screen and navigation are standard, but models with the Ultimate Package get a larger, 9.2-inch screen that goes better with the rest of the dash. A multifunction knob behind the shifter controls things and it's a good size, fitting the hand nicely. Menus are intuitively ordered and the most commonly used operations are no more than a few clicks away, which makes the system feel snappy." -- Cars.com (2017)

Cargo

The G80 has 15.3 cubic feet of trunk space, which is slightly above average for the class. Unlike many class competitors, the G80's rear seats don't fold down, making it difficult to haul longer items. A hands-free trunk, which opens when you stand behind the car with the key on you, is standard. A power trunk lid is optional.

  • "Like the cabin, the trunk is expansive with a generous opening for easy loading. At 15.3 cubic feet, it's large for the segment." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The G80's trunk offers 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space. ... Its backseat, however, does not fold down, so if you need to fit longer items you might be out of luck." -- Cars.com (2017)
