2020 Genesis G70 Interior

2020 Genesis G70 Interior Review

Interior: 6.9

The 2020 Genesis G70 has an elegant interior, comfortable front seats, and a user-friendly infotainment system. However, the second row and trunk are small, and the touch screen's graphics aren’t up to luxury-class standards.

  • "Inside, the G70 delivers a luxury experience, thanks to attractive materials and excellent build quality." -- Car and Driver
  • "In terms of comfort, quiet and materials quality, the G70 checks all the luxury boxes. … Genesis keeps getting better at this part of the equation, and the G70 benefits with an interior that looks and feels like it belongs in a luxury vehicle." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The interior is executed well and exudes all of the ambiance I expect from a luxury car. I'm a big fan of the quilted leather on the doors and seats in high-end models but I was no less fond of the lower-spec manual-transmission G70 I drove." -- Automobile Magazine (2019)

The Genesis G70 has five seats. Synthetic leather upholstery, a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat are standard. Optional features include genuine leather upholstery, Nappa leather upholstery, quilted Nappa leather, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a suede headliner.

The G70's front seats provide plenty of side support, and they remain comfortable during long drives. Outward visibility is excellent.

The back seats are another story. The roofline encroaches on head space, and legroom is tight, especially if the front-row seats are pushed back.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats. The lower anchors are set deeply in the seats, and it's difficult to maneuver your hands around the anchors.

  • "While the front seat strikes a nice balance between comfort and sport, the rear seat is compromised by limited legroom." -- Car and Driver
  • "The seats are comfortable and supportive with additional side and bottom cushion bolstering." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The back seats are tight, especially if someone tall is sitting in front of you. The dash is less vast than in the other Genesis and the entire car is just narrower, which helps you place it a lot better on the road. … Riding in the back seat of the G70 for extended periods of time will begin to feel cramped. Because of the car's slanted rear window line, there isn't much headroom back there." -- Jalopnik (2019)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2020 G70 include dual automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, and an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, and three USB ports. Optional equipment includes navigation, a sunroof, a 15-speaker Lexicon surround-sound stereo, and wireless device charging.

The G70's touch screen is easy to use, but some critics decry its less than impressive graphics and slow response times. Also, the screen can be hard to reach from the driver's seat.

Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention monitoring. Safety features such as front and rear parking sensors, a head-up display, a surround-view parking camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and adaptive headlights are available.

  • "The touchscreen … had slow responses to [user] inputs during testing, and our interactions were less intuitive than on competitors with user-friendly rotary controllers." -- Car and Driver
  • "The controls are a model of simplicity, easy to read and operate, with the exception of the touch screen. We found it to be a far reach when drivers want to change modes, settings, and navigation. … The infotainment system graphics are shared with entry-level Hyundai models—we think the Genesis brand deserves a more premium look and feel." -- Consumer Reports (2019)
  • "An easy-to-understand touchscreen handles infotainment duties alongside a full suite of redundant knobs and dials." -- New York Daily News (2019)

The Genesis G70 has 10.5 cubic feet of trunk space, which is below average for a luxury small car. However, you can still fit several suitcases. A hands-free trunk is standard, and a power trunk is optional.

  • "We managed to fit five carry-on bags in the G70's trunk, and 14 total with the rear seat folded." -- Car and Driver
