Boasting one of the most powerful base engines in the class, with an authoritative V6 option, the 2019 Genesis G70 is a quick little car in both configurations. Adding to its enjoyment are athletic, stable handling dynamics and a quiet cabin. If this is your daily driver, be ready to pay more for gas than with most other luxury small cars, as the G70 is a thirsty sedan.

Acceleration and Power

Under the hood of the G70 2.0T is one of the most powerful base engines you can get in a small luxury car. Cranking out 252 horsepower (255 with the optional six-speed manual transmission), the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes the car feel quick off the line, with very little turbo lag. It isn't very economical, though. The 2.0T's fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway are some of the lowest in the segment.

Power delivery is even more forceful and satisfying with the G70's upgraded engine. Engage launch control, and this 365-horsepower 3.3-liter engine helps the car sprint to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Like the 2.0T engine, it is turbocharged and comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its 18/26 mpg rating translates to an additional $400 in fuel costs versus the G70 2.0T.

Handling and Braking

The G70 comes standard as a rear-wheel-drive sedan with five drive mode settings (Sport, Comfort, Smart, Eco, and Custom). For extra grip, you can upgrade to all-wheel drive, which is available with both engines. The G70 flaunts all the essential qualities of a sports sedan: responsive steering, strong brakes, and composed handling. However, it falters slightly by allowing a mild amount of body roll, and for some, the stiff suspension will feel too firm on a daily basis.
