2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.5

The 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid looks great inside. The stylish cabin is covered in premium materials, giving it an upscale feel. The seats are spacious and comfortable, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system is an easy way to control tech features. The cargo space is below average, even by hybrid standards.

  • "Interior materials are also consistently high across the trim levels." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "The revised 2017 Fusion still looks great inside, and its handsome forms are now embellished by soft-touch upholstery." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)
  • "Inside, flowing lines and contoured shapes displace the straight-edged design of the old car. Soft-touch surfaces abound, and the interior is also quieter than before thanks to acoustic underbody shields that also contribute to the Fusion's efficiency-boosting 0.27 coefficient of drag." -- Left Lane News (2017)

Seating

The Fusion Hybrid seats five on standard cloth upholstery. Leather upholstery, front sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats are available.

Both rows of seats are comfortable, and the front seats provide all-day support. There's ample legroom in both rows, but the sloping roofline slightly impairs the driver's rearward visibility.

For connecting car seats, the Fusion has two complete LATCH systems in the second row. The middle seat can borrow lower anchors from each side. The lower anchors are located deep in the seats, and it's difficult to maneuver your hands around them to attach car seat straps.

  • Almost everyone should find the Fusion's interior pleasant and accommodating. It's easy to get in and out of, the driving position is highly adjustable, and the cabin offers a generous amount of space. Tall passengers might take issue with the sloping rear roofline when getting into the backseat." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • The front seats are snug. Those accustomed to generous American dimensions might not be so appreciative. No need to worry about rear passengers, though. Maximizing space beneath the elegant roofline was clearly a priority, since even 6-footers have headroom to spare. Legroom is also plentiful." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "Slip into a Ford Fusion, … and you will find that comfort is easy to come by. The car coddles its driver, the steering wheel is a pleasure to grip, and nothing more than a rather low roof and slightly thick windshield pillars presents cause for complaint." -- New York Daily News (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features in the Ford Fusion Hybrid include dual-zone automatic climate control, Ford's MyKey (which lets you set speed and volume limits for other drivers of your car), a nine-speaker sound system, push-button start, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and navigation. Available features include remote start, a moonroof, an 11-speaker premium audio system, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, satellite radio, and HD Radio.

Standard driver assistance features include a rearview camera and the new-for-2019 Ford Co-Pilot360, which is a suite of features that includes lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking. Available driver assistance features include rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, and automatic parking assist.

The SYNC 3 infotainment system is terrific. It is responsive, has intuitive menus, and features large on-screen buttons that are easy to see from the driver's seat. There are physical controls for some functions as well. Thanks to the Co-Pilot360 suite of active safety features, the Fusion Hybrid now comes with more driver assistance technology than some competitors.

  • Like a smartphone, Sync 3 has big virtual buttons and the ability to swipe through menus. The satellite radio signal often dropped, though, likely due to a weak antenna, and max-volume audio quality isn't great." -- Edmunds
  • "Highlights of Sync 3 include faster response to user input, improved graphics, more conversational voice recognition, and a capacitive touch display supporting swipe and pinch-to-zoom functions similar to a tablet computer. Additionally, a new Sync Connect app allows for remote engine starting, remote access to door locks, and more, all from your smartphone's screen." -- New York Daily News (2017)
  • "Feeding media to the stereo and providing infotainment services along the way is the new Ford Sync 3 infotainment system, which we've seen proliferating throughout Ford's lineup of vehicles. Not only has Sync 3 tremendously improved over the previous generation, it's also a marked improvement over much of the competition. The graphics are crisply rendered and the functions are smartly organized, which makes the system a joy to use." -- CNET (2017)

Cargo

The Fusion Hybrid offers 12 cubic feet of trunk space. Most other hybrids have more trunk space. However, unlike many hybrids, this Ford offers fold-down rear seats and a rear-seat pass-through, giving you more cargo flexibility. There's a good amount of small-item storage in the cabin.

  • The Fusion Hybrid offers 12 cubic feet of trunk space, which is sufficient but less than some hybrid competitors. But the Fusion does have rear seats that can be folded down to increase cargo capacity. Most other hybrid sedans don't have this feature." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Anyone can appreciate the Fusion Hybrid's trunk, as the battery takes up less space than hybrids from other carmakers, and the rear backrest folds down to increase cargo utility." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)
  • The … battery pack on hybrid and especially plug-in hybrid models compromises luggage space. This family sedan's rear seats fold to expand cargo space, even in Hybrid models, but there's no seatback release in the trunk." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
