2013 Ford Focus Electric Overview

The 2013 Ford Focus Electric is powered by an electric motor paired with a single-speed transmission. The Ford Focus Electric is plenty powerful and accelerates quickly, test drivers reported. The 2013 Focus Electric achieves an EPA-estimated 110/99 mpg-equivalent (mpg-e) and can travel 76 miles on a fully charged battery. The Focus Electric’s mpg-e rating is a bit lower than the 2013 Nissan Leaf’s. Using a standard 120-volt outlet, it should take about 20 hours to fully charge the battery, or as little as four hours with a 240-volt charging station. Test drivers appreciated that the Ford Focus Electric drives similarly to the gas-only Focus. They liked the Focus Electric’s agile handling and accurate steering, but some complained that its brakes feel a bit grabby, which is a common complaint of regenerative brakes.

Reviewers found the 2013 Ford Focus Electric’s cabin to be attractive and made with high-quality materials. According to reviewers, the Focus Electric’s front seats are supportive, but a few said that back-seat legroom could be better. The Ford Focus Electric comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats, push-button start, a Sony sound system, the MyFord Touch infotainment system, satellite radio, navigation and SYNC, which includes Bluetooth and a USB port. Leather upholstery is available. The automotive press wrote that MyFord Touch has a significant learning curve and is needlessly complicated. There is 14.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, which is OK for a hatchback, though it is a bit more than the 2013 Nissan Leaf’s cargo space.

The all-electric 2013 Nissan Leaf has a similar driving range to the Focus Electric but a higher mpg-e rating. Unlike with the Focus Electric, reviewers were impressed with the linear, natural feel of the Leaf’s regenerative brakes.
