2018 Ford Fiesta Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2018 Ford Fiesta was new.

Interior: 7.8

The 2018 Ford Fiesta has a pleasant interior for the price, but the standard cloth seating material feels scratchy. Options like leather upholstery and heated front seats improve overall quality. The Fiesta’s tech features are useful and entertaining. The available SYNC 3 infotainment system is responsive, and it features nifty functions like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Space is limited in the Fiesta, with narrow front seats, cramped rear quarters, and below-average cargo room – regardless of body style.

  • "Build quality is decent for the class, but don't expect a whole lot of soft-touch in this price range. The shifter feels substantial, and the controls work well. No squeaks or rattles." -- Edmunds
  • "Comfort is high and the materials feel good to the touch. It's also nicely put together. There's an overall feeling of quality." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "… the Fiesta comes in a wide array of colors for both exterior and interior schemes, and even the lower trim levels can be kitted out with useful technology." -- Autotrader (2016)

The Fiesta seats five on standard cloth upholstery that is slightly abrasive and not as comfortable as what you’ll find in rival subcompact cars. For better seating comfort, upgrade to leather upholstery or sport seats. You can also get heated front seats in the Fiesta.

Most folks won’t have a problem with headroom up front, but the Fiesta’s narrowness can make the cabin feel cramped once a passenger joins you. The rear seats are dreadfully small. We would normally only recommend them for children, but the Fiesta’s child-seat system is a pain to work with. There are complete sets of LATCH connectors in each outboard seat and a tether-only connection in the middle seat. While the top tethers are easy to use, the lower anchors are too deep in the seats. They also require too much force to attach them.

  • "There's not a lot of padding, and the cloth material feels scratchy when you're wearing shorts. There's also minimal adjustability; plus the seatback lever is a poor design, hidden by the seat belt. … Front headroom is plentiful, but the car's narrowness means front occupants will bump elbows." -- Edmunds
  • "It should come as no surprise, however, that rear-seat legroom is cramped in this subcompact." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "… those interested in regularly carrying three or more passengers should know that the rear seats are cramped for adults." -- Left Lane News (2016)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2018 Fiesta include keyless entry, a six-speaker audio system, a 4.2-inch display, and a rearview camera. There are also a couple of connectivity functions, namely Bluetooth for phone calls and an auxiliary jack for playing music.

The upgraded SYNC 3 system features a 6.5-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, satellite radio, and an eight-speaker audio system. Rear parking sensors and MyKey, which allows you to program individual keys for other drivers, are also available. SYNC 3 has straightforward controls, quick responses, and crisp graphics. The optional navigation system is easy to use. Other upgrades include power windows, cruise control, automatic climate control, a moonroof, navigation, and a proximity key with push-button start.

  • "We're generally fond of the Fiesta's in-car tech from the standard Sync system's voice recognition to the turn-by-turn driving directions and emergency assistance. The available Sync 3 system improves on that idea with sharp graphics, intuitive controls and a 6.5-inch touchscreen." -- Edmunds
  • "Where that previous [infotainment] system was marred by too-small alphanumerics and latent response, Sync 3 and its 6.5-inch touch screen are faster and easier to operate." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)

Whether you opt for the sedan or hatchback, the Fiesta has below-average cargo space. The sedan offers 12.8 cubic feet of space, while the hatchback gives you 14.9. The hatchback’s rear seats fold to yield 25.4 cubic feet of cargo space, but the seats don’t go flat like those in some rivals. There’s a meager 10.1 cubic feet of space behind the seats of the spunky ST trim. Up front, the Fiesta offers several places to stow small items, but the rear seats come up short on storage.

  • "Excellent small-item storage up front with four cupholders and plenty of bins. No door pockets in the rear, though." -- Edmunds
  • "Additionally, the Fiesta hatchback's rear seats don't fold down all the way, limiting total cargo space to 26 cubic feet." -- Left Lane News (2016)
