2017 Ford Fiesta Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2017 Ford Fiesta was new.

Scorecard

Interior: 8.0

The 2017 Ford Fiesta features advanced technology and top-notch materials. The cabin has a modern design and offers details and finishes that add extra style. The front seats are spacious, and it is easy to find a comfortable driving position. However, the rear seat is very tight, even for a subcompact car, and adults will feel cramped. The Fiesta's cargo space is also small, with below-average measurements. The infotainment system is easy to use. It has a logical layout and the controls are easy to access.

  • "Comfort is high and the materials feel good to the touch. It's also nicely put together. There's an overall feeling of quality. If you're willing to spend, things can get fancy with leather seats, ambient lighting and push-button start." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The 2017 Ford Fiesta may be Ford's least expensive car, but it doesn't feel like it. The interior is notable for both its high-quality materials and its stylish good looks. Available amenities such as heated leather seats, the premium Sony audio system and multicolor ambient lighting add a distinctly upscale vibe." -- Edmunds
  • "… the Fiesta comes in a wide array of colors for both exterior and interior schemes, and even the lower trim levels can be kitted out with useful technology." -- Autotrader (2016)

Seating

The Ford Fiesta seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery. It also comes standard with a manual tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel and 60/40 split rear seats. Optional features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

The Fiesta's front seats are spacious and comfortable with a height-adjustable driver's seat. The upgraded Recaro seats increase support with added side bolsters, but can feel narrow for some drivers. The rear seats, however, are seriously cramped, with little leg- and headroom. This small space is best left to children.

The Fiesta's LATCH car-seat system includes two sets of lower anchors in the rear outboard seats. These anchors sit against the back cushions, which are stiff and hard to move, making the anchors difficult to access. The three tether anchors, however, are easy to get to and easy to use.

  • "There's plenty of room up front, and the height-adjustable driver seat and tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel make it easy to find a comfortable driving position. The optional Recaro front sport seats feature more substantial side bolsters but, although they offer good support in aggressive motoring, some buyers may find them a tight fit or just plain less practical in everyday driving. The rear seats are seriously short on head- and legroom no matter how you slice it." -- Edmunds
  • "It should come as no surprise, however, that rear-seat legroom is cramped in this subcompact." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "While the front seats offer plenty of space and comfort, those interested in regularly carrying three or more passengers should know that the rear seats are cramped for adults." -- Left Lane News (2016)

Interior Features

The 2017 Ford Fiesta comes standard with a 4-inch LCD screen, a six-speaker sound system, and the SYNC system with SYNC AppLink, which allows you to make calls, listen to music, and control certain applications using voice commands. Optional features include remote start, a moonroof, cruise control, satellite radio, HD Radio, two USB ports, power windows, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, an eight-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, park assist, push-button start, and a rearview camera. Ford's MyKey system is also available. This allows you to set speed and audio volume limits for other drivers. Additionally, Ford's SYNC 3 system is available. It includes a 6.5-inch touch screen and navigation. It also automatically calls for help in the event of an accident.

Ford's SYNC and SYNC 3 systems are responsive and easy to use. There is no lag time in the SYNC 3 system, and placement of the controls is organized and logical. The upgraded system features a touch screen that responds to smartphonelike swipe and pinch-to-zoom commands.

  • "The standard Sync system's voice recognition makes it possible to interact with your smartphone hands-free, and offers access to other useful features including turn-by-turn driving directions and emergency assistance. The available Sync 3 system improves on that idea with sharp graphics and an intuitive arrangement of controls on its 6.5-inch touchscreen." -- Edmunds
  • "The 2016 Fiesta is among the first Fords to get the latest and greatest version of the Sync infotainment system. It's much better than the outgoing one. Where that previous system was marred by too-small alphanumerics and latent response, Sync 3 and its 6.5-inch touch screen are faster and easier to operate." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)

Cargo

Both the Fiesta sedan and hatchback models have below-average cargo space. The sedan has 12.8 cubic feet of trunk space. Hatchback models have 14.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 25.4 cubic feet with them folded. Competitors such as the Kia Rio hatchback (49.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded), offer much more cargo space.

  • "When it comes time to schlep stuff, the Fiesta sedan's trunk offers a decent 12.8 cubic feet worth of space. The hatchback's cargo hold is only slightly bigger with 14.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats. Fold down the rear seatbacks and you end up with 25.4 cubic feet of room, an amount of space that's definitely below average. The Fit, in contrast, can hold up to 52.7 cubic feet of cargo." -- Edmunds
  • "With over 25 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seats folded, the Fiesta hatchback is impressively roomy. All sedans also have 60/40-folding rear seats to accommodate larger items." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "Additionally, the Fiesta hatchback's rear seats don't fold down all the way, limiting total cargo space to 26 cubic feet." -- Left Lane News (2016)
