2016 Ford Fiesta Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2016 Ford Fiesta was new.

Interior: 8.6

The 2016 Ford Fiesta's cabin has a handsome design and is built with good-quality materials that are soft to the touch, according to most reviewers. Critics note that the front seats are roomy and comfortable but the back seat is cramped, which is typical for a subcompact car. Trunk space in the sedan is good for the class, but the hatchback offers less overall cargo space than competing hatchbacks. Reviewers remark the available SYNC 3 voice command system, with its quick responses and intuitive touch-screen display, is much better than the MyFord Touch system offered in previous model years.

  • "Although the Fiesta is Ford's cheapest car, it doesn't feel like a penalty box inside. On the contrary, its materials are quite nice for the price, and everything seems to be tightly screwed together." -- Edmunds
  • "Other enhancements in the 2014 Fiesta include better materials on the dashboard, though the cabin is still largely awash with black plastics. The glossy black trim on the center stack and the aluminum accents on the ST-specific steering wheel and shift knob look and feel upscale, but remember, this is a sub-$25,000 subcompact." -- Autoblog (2014)
  • "A sculpted dashboard, quality materials and a unique, cell phone-inspired center stack gave the cabin a relatively luxurious appearance when the Fiesta first arrived in the U.S. several years back. Since then, the Fiesta's interior advantage has largely disappeared as new and improved rivals have hit the market, but more premium trimmings added for the latest model year help bring the hatchback closer to the front of the pack." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "While the Fiesta definitely has its substantive strengths, it leads with style. Ford's masterful interior styling and execution offer a number of interior choices. ... You'll find soft-touch materials on the armrest, center-console lid and steering wheel, and you can order high-end options like heated front seats, push-button start and multi-color selectable ambient lighting." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)

The Ford Fiesta seats five, and seating options include leather upholstery and heated front seats. In the Fiesta ST, heated Recaro front sport seats are available. Reviewers write that the standard front seats are comfortable and spacious. They say the ST's available Recaro bucket seats do a good job of keeping you in place but may be uncomfortable for some folks on longer trips. Most critics agree that the back seats offer limited space, which is fairly typical for a subcompact car.

  • "It should come as no surprise, however, that rear-seat legroom is cramped in this subcompact." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The optional Recaro sport seats feature large side bolsters that wrap around and hug both front occupants. As such, they hold you securely in place while you're hustling the ST along a curvy road. On the other hand, those aggressive bolsters make getting in and out of the car a little harder, and larger folks may find the seats uncomfortable on long trips." -- Edmunds
  • "While the front seats offer plenty of space and comfort, those interested in regularly carrying three or more passengers should know that the rear seats are cramped for adults." -- Left Lane News (2015)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2016 Fiesta include a six-speaker audio system and the voice-activated SYNC system with Bluetooth and a USB port. Optional features include power windows, a rearview camera, an eight-speaker Sony audio system, proximity key/push-button start, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, rear parking sensors and the new SYNC 3 infotainment system with touch-screen controls and Siri that replaces the MyFord Touch system found in older models.

According to auto journalists, the SYNC 3 system is much easier to use than MyFord Touch was. They say the touch screen is intuitive and responds quickly to inputs. They also appreciate that it operates with pinch and swipe gestures, much like on a smartphone.

  • "Optional on the Fiesta SE and standard on higher trims, Sync 3 employs a simplified touchscreen with clearly laid-out categories, and it responds to pinch and swipe commands just like a smartphone." -- Edmunds
  • "The 2016 Fiesta is among the first Fords to get the latest and greatest version of the Sync infotainment system. It's much better than the outgoing one. Where that previous system was marred by too-small alphanumerics and latent response, Sync 3 and its 6.5-inch touch screen are faster and easier to operate." -- Kelley Blue Book

The Fiesta sedan has 12.8 cubic feet of trunk space, which is good for a subcompact sedan. Hatchback models have up to 14.9 cubic feet behind the back row of seats and 25.4 with the back row folded, which is small for a subcompact hatchback. Some reviewers are pleased with the amount of luggage space in both the hatchback and sedan and appreciate the versatility of the split-folding rear seats. Still others are unimpressed with the Fiesta's cargo capacity, especially the hatchback models'.

  • "With over 25 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seats folded, the Fiesta hatchback is impressively roomy. All sedans also have 60/40-folding rear seats to accommodate larger items." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Fiesta sedan has a decent trunk capacity of 12.8 cubic feet, but the hatchback's space behind the rear seats is only a tad bigger at 14.9 cubic feet, with just 26 cubic feet available with the rear seatbacks folded down. That's pretty skimpy." -- Edmunds
  • "Additionally, the Fiesta hatchback's rear seats don't fold down all the way, limiting total cargo space to 26 cubic feet." -- Left Lane News (2015)
