2007 Ford F-150 Review

Note: This review was created when the 2007 Ford F-150 was new.

The F-150 delivers smooth handling and a comfortable, accommodating cab, but can't match the power or inspired exterior styling of others in its class. If you're in the market for a full-size pickup, also consider the Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

2007 Ford F-150 Overview

The 2007 Ford F-150, reviewers find, is a solid, capable pickup truck that offers a nice ride and a comfortable interior. The Boston Globe calls it "a utilitarian truck that can go to the construction site, haul plenty of lumber for weekend projects, beat its way through bad weather and rough terrain, but also provide a family of six with all the comforts of a luxury SUV." AutoWeek looks at the F-150's "smooth power, solid, quiet and comfortable ride, instant brake response and superb interior," and deems it "the best truck for the masses." Kelley Blue Book focuses on the truck's crossover appeal, writing, "If you're a pickup-truck kind of person to begin with, but your spouse is not, this truck could very well win him or her over."

Consumer Guide names the F-150 a recommended pick, saying, "This Ford earns its Recommended label for passenger room, refinement, and on-road composure." In a five-way comparison, however, Car and Driver places the F-150 fifth, behind the Dodge Ram, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan and Chevrolet Silverado, explaining, "This truck feels heavy" and calling it "hindmost in acceleration."

The F-150 is available with three different engines -- a 4.2-liter V6, a 4.6-liter V8 or a 5.4-liter V8; three different bed lengths -- 5.5, 6.5 or eight feet, and six different trim levels -- XL, STX, XLT, FX2/FX4, Lariat and King Ranch. A special edition Harley Davidson model is also available. It can also be ordered with rear- or four-wheel drive. Value ratings from IntelliChoice depend on all of these factors and vary widely, though most ratings are near or below "Average" for predicted five-year cost of ownership compared to others in its class.
