2010 Ford Explorer Review
In 2010, the seven-seat Ford Explorer was one of the few off-road SUVs left in its class and is aimed for buyers with hauling, towing and off-roading needs. However, for a spacious third row, good fuel economy or a smooth, comfortable ride, you may want to consider a car-based crossover instead.
Reviewers said the 2010 Ford Explorer is an excellent SUV for hauling, towing and off-roading. On the downside, the Explorer’s fuel economy is horrendous, its safety scores are below average for the class and its interior is fairly dated and basic when compared with more refined crossovers. Still, the Explorer may be a good fit for those who need heavy-duty utility and seating for up to seven.
The 2010 Ford Explorer comes with either a V6 or a V8 engine and can be had in either XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited trims. Two-wheel drive is standard, but four- and all-wheel drive systems are also available. Standard features include a four-speaker stereo, stability control and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, though higher-end models come with features like wood trim, three-zone climate control and rear parking sensors.
Other Cars to Consider
The 2010 Chevrolet Traverse is one of the best crossovers in its class, with a particularly spacious third row, a smooth ride and great safety scores. It’s not an off-roader or a good tow vehicle like the Explorer is. Still, with loads of cargo space, comfortable seats and decent fuel economy, the 2009 Traverse is an extremely well-rounded SUV.
The 2010 Toyota Highlander might not have the same off-road capability as the Explorer, but it offers significantly better fuel economy from its base four-cylinder engine, as well as its available V6. The Highlander also has a more comfortable ride, as well as better safety scores.
