2020 Ford Edge Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.2

The 2020 Ford Edge has a generally pleasing interior, though there are some unimpressive surfaces throughout. The Edge offers two rows of spacious seating, but cargo space is below-average for the midsize SUV class, and the infotainment system, though decent, is a little dated.

  • "This is one of the nicest midsize crossover cabins for the price, with attractive surfaces and high-quality materials almost everywhere." -- Autotrader (2019)
  • "High-quality materials are used throughout, with the majority of the dash and door panels constructed of soft-touch surfaces, while some stitched panels and chrome and gloss black trim offer nice contrast." -- CNET (2019)
  • "The interior is comfortable and usable but not particularly pretty. There's minimal use of color or texture, even in the high-level Titanium trim. And while the fit and finish is solid, it's done with a lot of plain plastic. … The looks of the Edge's cabin are a bit disappointing, especially when compared to other vehicles in the same price range." -- Edmunds (2019)

Seating

The Ford Edge seats five people. Cloth upholstery and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat are standard. Optional features include synthetic leather upholstery, genuine leather upholstery, a six- or 10-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heated and power-tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, driver's seat memory settings, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.

For securing child safety seats, the Edge has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and an upper tether anchor for the rear middle seat. The middle seat can also borrow a lower anchor from each side. The lower anchors are set deeply in the seats, and you might confuse other hardware for the outboard tether anchors.

Both rows provide a good amount of seating space, and while the front seats are comfortable, the rear seats are too flat. The driver's seat offers good outward visibility.

  • "The Edge's comfortable front seats offer supportive bolsters and soft leather, but the rear seats are fairly flat and shapeless. The reclining rear seatback is a nice touch, though. … The Edge has a sizable cabin that provides plenty of room for the driver and passengers." -- Edmunds
  • "There is plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The front seats are soft, wide and comfortable. The rear seats had plenty of leg and headroom, even in models fitted with the panoramic moonroof. I could comfortably sit in the second row, behind a front seat adjusted to fit my long-legged, 6-foot-tall self." -- Autoblog (2019)
  • "With the power front seats at their lowest position, the seating position is still high and I could do with more side bolstering, but space for front and rear passengers is respectable." -- CNET (2019)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2020 Edge include dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, an 8-inch touch-screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo. Standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, and Ford's MyKey system, which lets you create speed and volume limits for secondary drivers.

Optional features include a rear-seat entertainment system, a nine-speaker premium stereo, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, wireless device charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, navigation, a panoramic roof, a household-style power outlet, and remote start. Available active safety features include front parking sensors, a 180-degree parking camera system, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, evasive steering assist, adaptive headlights, and automatic parking assist.

Most critics think that the Edge's infotainment system is simple and user-friendly, though they note that it's not as modern as those of some rivals.

  • "The Edge's Sync 3 is among the better infotainment systems around. Most of its features work well, particularly the voice controls. But the 8-inch touchscreen could use a few more hard key shortcuts for commonly used functions. Graphics are sharp, and the pinch-and-zoom function comes in handy when using the navigation system." -- Edmunds
  • "The infotainment screen’s chunky graphics look dated and using it presents a steep learning curve—there are too few buttons on the center stack and too many on the steering wheel. That said, the voice recognition works pretty well." -- Automobile Magazine (2019)
  • "If there is a part of the Edge that could use an update, it’s the climate controls. Some of the buttons are small and hard to read. In addition, the infotainment screen is still fairly easy to use, but the touch screens offered by other manufacturers are larger, higher-resolution units with more intuitive controls." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)

Cargo

The Edge has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 73.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. Those numbers are a little below average for the midsize SUV class. A split-folding rear seat is standard, and a hands-free power liftgate is optional. Though the cargo area is easy to load, the rear seats don't fold completely flat.

  • "Without the need to package a third row of seats, the Edge offers cavernous cargo area. There's 39.2 cubic feet behind the second row, among the most generous in the class. You can fold the 60/40-split rear seatbacks quickly, but they don't lie down completely flat." -- Edmunds
  • "Wonderfully roomy is the cargo area, where you can stow nearly 40 cubic feet of gear behind the cargo area when the second row is up -- that increases to over 73 cubic feet with the rear seats down." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The cargo area is low and wide and fits in between competitors like the GMC Acadia and Chevy Blazer in terms of space." -- Autoblog (2019)
