2018 Ford C-Max Hybrid Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.1

Climb inside the 2018 Ford C-Max Hybrid and you'll find handsome styling, high-end materials, and excellent build quality. It looks and feels like you're in a more expensive car. The seats are comfortable and roomy, and the available infotainment system is easy to use. Most rival wagons have more cargo space, however.

  • "With solid construction, eye-catching design and roomy accommodations, the C-Max is a tough act to beat in the interior." -- Edmunds
  • "Furthermore, its cabin is a pleasant place to spend extended periods of time, with high-quality materials, a modern-looking dashboard and nifty displays." -- Left Lane News (2016)
  • "In the areas of interior design, comfort and technology, the C-Max feels warmer than the ultra-modern Prius layout." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)

Seating

There are seats for five on standard cloth upholstery in the 2018 C-Max Hybrid. A 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat is standard, while leather upholstery and heated front seats are optional. The seats are supportive and comfortable, with plenty of head- and legroom in both rows, even for tall adults. The driver can easily see out of the wagon thanks to the high seating position.

There are full sets of LATCH connectors on the rear outboard seats, along with an additional upper tether anchor on the rear middle seat.

  • "The C-Max provides well-contoured and supportive front seats (optionally heated) and comfortable adult-size rear seats. The elevated seating position is similar to a compact SUV's." -- Edmunds
  • "This Ford hybrid's voluptuous exterior design pays off inside, where headroom is generous for front- and rear-seat passengers." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • The first thing you'll notice after climbing inside the C-MAX Hybrid is its tall, SUV-like seating position. This might not be a good thing if you're a fan of low-slung sports cars, but at least the elevated posture enables a commanding view of the road, while the curved roofline provides ample headroom." -- Autotrader (2015)

Interior Features

Standard features in the C-Max Hybrid include dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, the SYNC voice recognition system, and a rearview camera. Available features include a panoramic sunroof, a nine-speaker audio system, satellite radio, dual USB ports, an 8-inch touch-screen SYNC 3 infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and parallel park assist.

The SYNC 3 infotainment system is user friendly, with a responsive touch screen that recognizes smartphonelike gestures such as swiping and pinching. Models that lack SYNC 3 have more cumbersome controls. The C-Max Hybrid lacks many of the advanced safety features – like forward collision warning and lane keep assist – you can get in rivals.

  • The C-Max comes with Sync 3, which is an easy-to-use infotainment system that includes Apple or Android smartphone integration. The C-Max lacks the latest driver safety aids, however, and you can only get blind-spot monitoring on the Titanium trim." -- Edmunds
  • For 2017, the C-Max's former SEL top trim is replaced by the Titanium, which brings features like a power-adjustable passenger seat and Sony premium audio system. Blind-spot monitoring is now optional, and a rearview camera becomes standard." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "… a new SYNC 3 infotainment system replaces the unpopular MyFord Touch, bringing a more user-friendly interface and improved technology." -- Autotrader (2016)

Cargo

The C-Max Hybrid has 24.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats and 52.6 cubic feet with them folded. That's below average for a wagon. The load floor is elevated to accommodate the battery pack, which means you'll have to lift your luggage high up to put it in the vehicle. A hands-free power liftgate is available.

  • Due to the drive batteries, the C-Max's rear load floor is high. There's only 24.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the rear seats, but you can fold down the rear seats to get a maximum of 52.6 cubic feet of space." -- Edmunds
  • "Fold the C-Max's rear seats flat and you'll find a cargo bay large enough to rival some small SUVs." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • Unfortunately, the C-MAX it (sic) isn't quite as big inside as its crossover-like look would suggest. … The C-MAX does offer Ford's trick automatic tailgate, however, which operates by a sweep of the foot beneath the rear bumper." -- Left Lane News (2016)
