2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid was new.

Interior: 7.7

Reviewers agree that the 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid has a well-built interior with high-quality materials and an appealing design. They say there is plenty of head- and legroom for four tall passengers to sit comfortably. However, the cargo area is small for a wagon. Many critics think the available MyFord Touch infotainment system complicates the adjustment of the audio and climate control systems.

  • "Ford's newfound status as a leader in interior design and material quality is evident in the 2014 C-Max." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Materials are attractive if not lavish, and every control feels like it's of solid quality." -- Edmunds (2013)
  • "Materials and design are a pleasant surprise, and the feature content is excellent in both the well-equipped SE and full-boat SEL trims." -- Road and Track (2013)

The 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Leather upholstery, heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are optional. Most reviewers agree that the Ford C-Max Hybrid’s cabin is very spacious, providing enough head- and legroom in both rows for four tall occupants to sit comfortably. One test driver adds that because the C-Max Hybrid has a high roof, it has large windows that give you superb outward visibility.

  • "A tall roof and wide side glass provide excellent 360-degree visibility, while the elevated seats provide an SUV-like driving position." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "For occupants, the second row in the C-Max is about as spacious as the V's, and the Ford's seats are comfortable and supportive. When compared to the Prius hatchback, however, the C-Max is slightly larger inside." -- Car and Driver (2013)
  • "The C-Max is a tall five-seater that places more emphasis on passenger space than cargo room behind the rear bench. By doing this, Ford was able to create a smallish vehicle that is easy to park in cramped city conditions, but with enough room for four over-6-foot-tall adults to sit comfortably." -- CNET (2013)
  • "The cabin of the five-door is comfortable in all four primary seating positions, with impressively generous head, leg and shoulder room (the middle passenger in the second row won't be as comfortable on the slightly taller cushion, but it is fine for short jaunts)." -- Autoblog (2013)

Interior Features

The 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, a 110-volt power outlet, a six-speaker audio system, a USB port, Bluetooth phone connectivity and SYNC, which allows you to control the vehicle’s communications and entertainment system using voice commands. Optional features include push-button start, a fixed glass panoramic roof, a nine-speaker Sony audio system, a MyFord Touch touch-screen infotainment system, navigation, satellite radio, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and active park assist, which can help steer the car into a parallel spot.

Many reviewers think that MyFord Touch complicates simple adjustments to audio and climate control systems. Test drivers say the active park assist system is among the best on the market. Critics also like the high-tech instrument gauges that show the car’s fuel consumption and speed.

  • "The SE experience is a cut above average; for sure you sit in a manual seat and it starts with a conventional key, but the electronic options are comprehensive and there's still access to the stand-alone, non-opening panoramic sunroof option." -- Road and Track (2013)
  • "The complex MyFord Touch interface is packed with functionality, but with it comes a significant frustration factor." -- Edmunds (2013)
  • "The C-Max is also available with Ford's outstanding automatic parallel-parking system, one of the best and easiest-to-use systems that we've ever tested thanks to its one-button activation and automatic parking-space finder." -- CNET (2013)
  • "Other gadgetry includes the cartoony effects of the instrument cluster, better known as SmartGauge with EcoGuide, presenting whizbang displays of efficiency and consumption in addition to such basics as speed and distance." -- Automobile Magazine (2013)

The 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid has 24.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats, and 52.6 cubic feet when the second-row seats are folded. The C-Max Hybrid has 5.3 more cubic feet of space behind the second-row seats than the 2014 C-Max Energi, but its cargo area is still small for a wagon. A power liftgate is available with a feature that opens the liftgate when you wave your foot under the bumper, which test drivers say is convenient when your hands are full.

  • "… the keyless tailgate that's a must: just insert your toe under the rear bumper, step back, and the door lifts or closes itself." -- Automobile Magazine (2013)
  • "You can only understand the appeal of magical liftgates after you've had a child, maybe two." -- Edmunds (2013)
  • "Fold the rear seat-backs flat and the C-Max's cargo space opens up with plenty of space for bulky items." -- CNET (2013)
