2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid Overview

Is the 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid a Good Used Wagon?

The Ford C-Max Hybrid has a lot to offer, including impressive driving dynamics, an upscale cabin with adult-friendly seats, and outstanding fuel economy estimates. Still, shoppers who want a reliable wagon with lots of cargo space should look elsewhere. If you buy the C-Max Hybrid, you may want to avoid models that have the frustrating available MyFord Touch infotainment system.

Used 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid Performance and Interior

The front-wheel-drive 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid's four-cylinder engine and electric motor make 188 horsepower combined. Whether accelerating from a stop or moving at highway speeds, the C-Max Hybrid feels zippy. It also smoothly transitions between gas and electric power. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard. According to the EPA, the C-Max Hybrid gets 41 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Those estimates are close to the highest in the class, only topped slightly by the Toyota Prius v's. The C-Max Hybrid rides firmly but also feels smooth on most road surfaces. It has responsive steering, a composed ride, and strong brakes.

The Ford C-Max Hybrid's cabin is well-constructed with top-quality materials, and its attractive styling includes high-tech instrument gauges that display fuel usage and speed. The C-Max Hybrid has seating for five, though four adults will be most comfortable. There is ample head- and legroom inside, and the 2014 C-Max Hybrid has excellent outward visibility due to its high roofline. The rear outboard seats have complete sets of LATCH connectors for child safety seats. The middle seat has an upper tether anchor plus the ability to borrow lower anchors for the other two seats. With its back seats folded, the Ford C-Max Hybrid has 52.6 cubic feet of cargo space, which is on the small side for a wagon.

The 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, a 110-volt power outlet, a USB port, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and SYNC voice commands. Available features include push-button start and navigation. A MyFord Touch touch-screen infotainment system is also available, but it complicates basic tasks like adjusting audio and climate settings.

Due to the C-Max Hybrid's poor reliability rating, a certified pre-owned model is worth checking out. For all of its certified pre-owned vehicles, Ford extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles and provides a one-year/12,000-mile limited warranty. Each CPO vehicle must pass a 172-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Ford warranty page carefully.

2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid and Other Wagons to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid or 2014 Toyota Prius v?

The Toyota Prius v is neither as fast nor as fun to drive as the C-Max Hybrid, but it's still the better wagon overall. It uses less fuel and has more cargo space than the C-Max Hybrid. Additionally, it has a very good reliability score, and its roomy back seats can slide and recline.

Which Is Better: 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid or 2014 Chevrolet Volt?

The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid compact car. Like the C-Max Hybrid, it has quick acceleration and composed handling. However, the Volt has a fraction of the C-Max Hybrid's cargo room, just four seats, and little back-seat space. The C-Max is the better buy for those who need the space.
