Buying Advice

Last Updated: May 24, 2019

Extremely Low Sales: The Fiat 500X is currently the least in-demand subcompact SUV, registering a 52.8% sales decline so far this year relative to the same period in 2018. The next slowest-selling member of the segment, the Mini Countryman, is still outselling the 500X by more than 4 to 1.

Above-Average Base Pricing: A base 500X with an automatic transmission starts at $23,685, which is around $1,500 above average (excluding hybrid models) and one of the highest base prices in the segment. However, when reaching the higher trims, the 500X is about average in the class at $27,415.

Time to Buy: Though plummeting sales mean you could get a good deal on a new 500X, we strongly suggest shopping around before settling on the Fiat. Consider the well-ranked and recently-refreshed Honda HR-V. Not only does it have a lower price and more cargo space, but it also has a much better history of reliability than the 500X – meaning it will likely cost you less to own and last much longer than the Fiat.
