2013 Dodge SRT Viper Overview

Critics say the 2013 SRT Viper’s V10 engine offers phenomenal acceleration, and that there’s instant throttle response at any speed. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and test drivers praise its light clutch and accurate shifter. While few luxury sports cars are as powerful as the 2013 Viper, its EPA-estimated 12/19 mpg city/highway is less than what most competitors get. Some auto writers report that the Viper’s brakes could be more responsive, and that its ride can be harsh. However, most agree that the Viper offers quick steering and lithe handling, especially considering its size.

Automotive writers report that the 2013 SRT Viper features a straightforward interior design with large gauges and premium materials. Like many sports cars, some say that entry and exit can be difficult, but most critics are pleased with the Viper’s supportive, well-bolstered seats. Additionally, a few test drivers say that the standard power-adjustable pedals make it easy to find a good driving position. The Viper has a larger trunk than many luxury sports cars, and critics say its standard Uconnect infotainment system features user-friendly menus and a large display. Additional standard features include a USB port, Bluetooth and a nine-speaker audio system. Available features include a rearview camera, six-way power-adjustable seats, leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and navigation.

  • "Do I want it? If you're a member of Viper Nation, you certainly do. The 2013 SRT Viper is not as raw and unapologetic as its predecessor but retains enough of the original Viper aura to keep the faithful happy." -- AutoWeek
  • "Has the Viper gone soft? In a single word, no. But after a half-day sneak preview at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan-where we previously captured some shakedown images and video-we can say with confidence that the new Viper is not only better than ever but is finally as appealing in person as it is on paper." -- Car and Driver
  • "The Viper is still a beast to be sure, but one with a bit more domestication." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "All this talk of sophisticated electronics perhaps would have you thinking the Viper has become dynamically distant, dulled by ghost-in-the-machine layers between the driver and the car, but you'd be wrong. The engine is still as violent as it ever was, and you can still turn off the safety systems if you want to relive the glory days of Viper hooliganism." -- Edmunds

Other Cars to Consider

Reviewers write that the Chevrolet Corvette has strong brakes and sharp handling. The Corvette ZR1 is a close match to the Viper in terms of power, and reviewers say it has astounding acceleration.

Automotive journalists agree that the Porsche 911 has world-class handling and a cabin that’s built with premium materials. The 911 is also available with an automated manual transmission that reviewers say delivers exceptionally quick gear changes.
