2016 Dodge Grand Caravan Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan was new.

Interior: 7.4

A few critics say the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan has a stylish interior built with soft-touch materials, however, others think rivals have nicer cabins. According to reviewers, tall drivers may have trouble getting comfortable because the pedals are too close, and passengers may find the angle of the second-row seats uncomfortable. Some test drivers find the infotainment system simple to use, while others say it overcomplicates some tasks. The Grand Caravan has an average amount of cargo room for the class, and writers praise the Stow 'n Go second- and third-row seats, which they say are versatile and easy to fold.

  • "Its orientation toward value shows in the cabin, where materials quality is notably lower than those found in competing minivans." -- Edmunds
  • "The dashboard sports a much simpler and more elegant layout, while strategically placed soft-touch materials create an upscale feel." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "The 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan offers up a clever and comfortable interior for its seven passengers." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • "The overall cabin design is contemporary, with materials that err on the side of durability versus luxury." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The 2016 Grand Caravan seats seven in three rows and comes standard with cloth upholstery. The third-row seats can flip backward to make tailgate seats in the hatch. Leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front- and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel and dual power-sliding doors are optional. A few reviewers think the pedals are too close for tall drivers to find a comfortable driving position, and the second-row seats lack sufficient padding and are mounted in a position that some people may find uncomfortable. Other critics, however, report the second row is spacious and supportive, and the third row has enough room for a couple passengers. They also like the third row's tailgate feature.

  • "You'll find good outward vision from an upright front-seat position, but some drivers, particularly taller ones, are likely to find the seat placement awkward, mostly because the pedals seem too close to the driver." -- Edmunds
  • "Perfect for a day at the game or a shaded family picnic, the Dodge's 2014 Grand Caravan's third-row seat can be flipped 180 degrees backward, creating a comfortable couch on which to perch your weary bones." -- Kelley Blue Book (2014)
  • "The 2nd-row seats are roomy and supportive, if mounted a bit low, so adults ride in a slight knees-up position. The 3rd-row bench can accommodate 2 passengers comfortably. With the Stow 'n Go system, 2nd-row seat padding is not as robust as it is on rival vans, but it's not much of a comfort penalty." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
  • "And the slant and padding of the second-row seats made them uncomfortable. Kids didn't seem to mind, though." -- USA Today (2011)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2016 Grand Caravan include a four-speaker audio system and an auxiliary audio input, while features like tri-zone automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touch-screen infotainment system, navigation, a nine-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a USB port, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, parking sensors, a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are optional.

Some test drivers say the infotainment system is intuitive and simple to use, though others say the system has a disorganized, illogical interface that overcomplicates otherwise simple tasks, such as adjusting audio controls.

  • "It's worth the money to make sure you buy a trim level or option package that includes the Uconnect 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment interface. It's not the big 8.4-inch screen found in other Dodges, but the system is pretty easy to use otherwise and includes the rearview camera." -- Edmunds
  • "Grand Caravan's dashboard features large, easy-to-read gauges. Most controls are logically arranged. When equipped with Chrysler's Uconnect multimedia suite, a few audio functions become a bit more complicated than they should be." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
  • "… A cluttered user interface, counterintuitive controls, and a Garmin-branded navigation system bundled into this package that is among the worst we've tried in any new vehicle. We'll admit that once you figure it out, Uconnect is functional and capable of keeping the family entertained, but dads won't be dragging their buddies out of the man cave to show off this tech." -- Autoblog (2011)

The 2016 Grand Caravan has 33 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seats, 83.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 143.8 cubic feet with both rear rows folded, which is about average for a minivan. The Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey both offer more overall cargo room, but their second-row seats must be removed to use all the space. The Grand Caravan comes standard with second-row in-floor storage compartments and Stow 'n Go third-row seats, which fold flat into the floor. Stow 'n Go second-row seats and a power liftgate are optional. Critics praise the Grand Caravan's numerous small-item storage compartments and the Stow 'n Go seats, which they say are easy to fold and make the Grand Caravan a versatile hauler.

  • "It's hard not to love Dodge's ultra-useful Stow 'n Go second-row seats that disappear into the floor with the flick of a lever." -- Edmunds
  • "What hasn't changed is the Grand Caravan's interior flexibility, which is largely due to Dodge's clever Stow 'n Go feature. … Stow 'n Go allows the seats to be easily folded into the floor, creating a flat loading space for cargo." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "One of its aces is cargo flexibility, primarily due to the Stow 'n Go 2nd-row seats, which quickly fold into the floor to maximize cargo space without removing the heavy seats." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • "Numerous pockets, bins, and cubbies mean you can store small items to your heart's content." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
