2015 Dodge Grand Caravan Overview

Is the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan a Good Used Minivan?

The 2015 Grand Caravan is a mediocre – though budget-friendly – seven-seat minivan. It offers easy-to-use cargo room and enough available features to satisfy most people. Still, it's not as refined as many higher-priced competitors.

Used 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan Performance and Interior

A 3.6-liter V6 engine gives the Grand Caravan plenty of power to haul full loads; however, it’s loud and unrefined, so it makes the cabin noisy. Additionally, the standard automatic transmission hesitates to downshift at times. The Grand Caravan gets up to 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Those estimates trail the ratings of nearly every competitor, but only by 1 to 2 mpg. Most competitors also have smoother rides over rough patches of road than the Grand Caravan does. On the plus side, the Grand Caravan has composed handling and responsive steering. You might not care much about agility in a minivan, but it will prove helpful if you have to swerve to prevent an accident.

The Grand Caravan's cabin is a bit of a mixed bag. Most interior materials are soft to the touch, but other surfaces are covered in hard plastics. There are seats for seven, but no one will be particularly comfortable. The front seats have little legroom, and the second-row Stow 'n Go seats have little padding, making them stiff to sit on. There's a full set of LATCH child-seat connectors on each second-row seat and the third-row middle seat.

As you might guess from its much lower starting price than class rivals, the base Grand Caravan AVP has a bare-minimum features list. It features a standard four-speaker audio system and an auxiliary audio input. Higher trims add many more features, including tri-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, Bluetooth, dual USB ports, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a Uconnect infotainment system with a 6.5-inch screen. Uconnect is mostly straightforward, though some features are buried under multiple menu levels. The physical controls are more intuitive to use.

While the Grand Caravan’s overall cargo capacity isn’t the largest in the class, it is probably the easiest space to access. You must remove the second-row seats in some rivals, but the Grand Caravan's Stow 'n Go seats fold flat into the floor to let you easily switch from carrying passengers to carrying cargo.

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tests, the Grand Caravan earned a four-star overall rating, with four stars in front and rollover tests and five stars in the side crash test. Should I Consider Another Used Grand Caravan?

The Grand Caravan was last fully redesigned for the 2008 model year, so all models from then up to the current 2018 Grand Caravan are very similar. For the 2015 model year, Dodge added two new trims: the SE Plus and the SXT Plus. A Crew trim level was available in model years prior to 2014. Earlier models may cost you less, but you should still look for a model that has the features you want when making your decision.

Which Used Dodge Grand Caravan Is Right for Me?

Skip over the bare-bones Grand Caravan AVP and buy an SE trim instead. SE models get you Stow 'n Go seats and tri-zone automatic climate control. Some SE models may also have a rear-seat entertainment system or a touch-screen Uconnect infotainment system. The SXT model adds some handy features like power-sliding side doors, a power liftgate, and a Stow 'n Place roof rack. The R/T model comes fully loaded with leather upholstery, a nine-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, the Uconnect infotainment system, and remote start.

For added peace of mind, consider a certified pre-owned Grand Caravan. For certified pre-owned Dodge vehicles, the original new-car powertrain warranty is extended to seven years or 100,000 miles. CPO vehicles also get a three-month/3,000-mile Maximum Coverage Care warranty. There are restrictions related to mileage and models, so read the Dodge warranty page carefully.
