2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan was new.

Interior: 7.5

Reviewers have generally nice things to say about the interior of the Dodge Grand Caravan. However, their reviews of its interior aren't as positive as their interior reviews of other minivans in the class. The Grand Caravan loses points for having seats that some reviewers think are uncomfortable and materials that some reviewers think feel a bit cheaper than what competitors are using.

  • "The overall cabin design is contemporary, with materials that err on the side of durability versus luxury." -- Consumer Guide

Many reviewers say that all seats in the seven-passenger Dodge Grand Caravan are not comfortable. Some complain that the padding in the optional Stow 'n Go second-row seats is not thick enough, while others complain about the space and seat position in the third row.

  • "The 2nd-row seats are roomy and supportive, if mounted a bit low, so adults ride in a slight knees-up position. The 3rd-row bench can accommodate 2 passengers comfortably. With the Stow 'n Go system, 2nd-row seat padding is not as robust as it is on rival vans, but it's not much of a comfort penalty." -- Consumer Guide
  • "And the slant and padding of the second-row seats made them uncomfortable. Kids didn't seem to mind, though." -- USA Today (2011)
  • "Obviously, a minivan isn't made for commuting, but that comfort will be appreciated on road trips with the entire family. Passengers in the third row did, however, find the ride back there much less hospitable. Instead of putting your wife and mother-in-law there, I'd suggest leaving it to the teenagers, who will likely take the comfort tradeoff for some parental distance." -- Cars.com (2011)

Interior Features

The Dodge Grand Caravan targets budget-minded buyers, so its standard features list is fairly sparse. The Grand Caravan AVP has remote keyless entry, power windows and doors, dual-zone climate control and a stereo with an auxiliary audio input. The SE model adds three-zone climate control and a six-speaker stereo. Optional features include a rear-seat entertainment system, Bluetooth, a rearview camera and USB ports.

Not all reviewers are pleased with the interior features in the Grand Caravan. While some note that the controls and gauges are well laid out and easy to read, others complain that the optional tech can be a chore to use.

  • "Grand Caravan's dashboard features large, easy-to-read gauges. Most controls are logically arranged. When equipped with Chrysler's Uconnect multimedia suite, a few audio functions become a bit more complicated than they should be. The CD player and its associated buttons are mounted very low on the dashboard and have small markings." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The one glaring weakness of the Grand Caravan's cabin is an unfortunate holdover from the old model: Chrysler's Uconnect Media Center, the infotainment system that bundles navigation and audio/video. The problems start with the dinky 6.5-inch front display and continue from there: A cluttered user interface, counterintuitive controls, and a Garmin-branded navigation system bundled into this package that is among the worst we've tried in any new vehicle. We'll admit that once you figure it out, Uconnect is functional and capable of keeping the family entertained, but dads won't be dragging their buddies out of the man cave to show off this tech." -- Autoblog (2011)

The Dodge Grand Caravan has 33 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row seats and 83.3 cubic feet behind the second row seats. Overall, it has 143.8 cubic feet of cargo space, in addition to a number of discrete storage areas for smaller items. Reviewers praise the Grand Caravan for its cargo carrying abilities. They particularly like the Stow 'n Go seats, which fold into the floor and make it easy to quickly maximize cargo space. Several critics also mention how handy the small item storage spaces are.

  • "Grand Caravan and its sibling Town & Country set the class standard for cargo hauling and flexibility. The bins where folded Stow 'n Go seats reside can be used for storage when the 2nd-row seats are raised. Folding the 2nd row can be a bit tricky, but it's a small price to pay for the convenience it provides. The 3rd row is a bit heavy to stow. A power-fold option would be handy, but you can't get this feature on the Grand Caravan (though it's offered on the Town & Country). Numerous pockets, bins, and cubbies mean you can store small items to your heart's content." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Lift a lever, and the seat articulates forward and into a bin in the floor. You do have to move the front seats forward quite a bit to give the middle seats the clearance to tumble into the floor, but when you do, the one-touch lever makes the operation simple." -- Cars.com
