2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Overview

Is the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan a Good Used Minivan?

It’s tough to recommend a used 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. Its interior materials don’t measure up in quality or comfort against competitors like the 2013 Honda Odyssey. The Grand Caravan is aimed at budget-conscious shoppers, so its standard features list is thinner than its competitors'. Finally, the Grand Caravan earns a below-average reliability rating. That said, it’s not all bad. This minivan’s Stow 'n Go system – one of the most flexible seating arrangements in the industry – allows you to easily stow seats below the floor and quickly access cargo space.

Used 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Performance and Interior

The 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan has a 283-horsepower V6 engine that produces adequate acceleration in most cases. However, it doesn’t feel as strong as its horsepower rating would suggest. The six-speed automatic transmission matched to the V6 can be slow to downshift. It has trouble dialing up engine power quickly when needed.

The 2013 Grand Caravan has a harsher ride than most of its competitors. Its driving dynamics are typical for a minivan, but you may notice some body lean when taking corners quickly. The Grand Caravan’s fuel economy estimates of 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway are average for a minivan.

The 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan is a 3-row minivan with seven seats. The cabin features modern styling and durable materials, but they are of a slightly lower quality than what competitors offer. The Grand Caravan’s seats are fairly spacious in the first two rows, but they could use extra cushioning. The second-row seats in particular are lightly cushioned, as they have to be thin enough to fold into the floor. Like many rivals, the Dodge Grand Caravan’s third row is too cramped for adults to ride in comfortably. There are three complete sets of LATCH connectors for attaching child safety seats; two in the second row and one in the third.

The 2013 Grand Caravan has a maximum cargo capacity of 143.8 cubic feet – a typical figure for the class. Most competitors require you to physically remove the second- and third-row seats to access their maximum cargo capacities. However, the Grand Caravan’s standard third-row Stow 'n Go seats and available second-row, power-folding Super Stow 'n Go seats easily and quickly fold into the floor to expose the full cargo space. The Grand Caravan also features a number of handy interior storage spaces.

Standard features in the base Grand Caravan include a four-speaker audio system and dual-zone climate control. Some models are available with a dual-screen Blu-ray entertainment system, Bluetooth, USB ports, and a Uconnect infotainment system with a 6.5-inch screen. The infotainment system includes audio and video controls. Its user interface is clunky, and the navigation system is particularly difficult to use. A small, hard-to-read screen adds to its issues.

Is the 2013 Grand Caravan the Best Model Year to Buy?

The 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan is a part of a generation that began in 2008 and was refreshed in 2011. Before buying a 2013 Grand Caravan, consider a 2011 or 2012 model. They will likely cost you less, yet they’re almost identical to the 2013 model minus a couple of differences. Second-row Stow 'n Go seating is a standard feature in 2011 and 2012 models, but it’s optional in 2013s. Also, if you want a Blu-ray entertainment system, you’ll have to buy the 2013 model (it’s the first model year this feature was available).

Which Used Dodge Grand Caravan Is Right for Me?

The 2014 Grand Caravan is available in five trims: AVP, SE, SXT, Crew, and R/T. The base Grand Caravan AVP (American Value Package) trim has a scant standard features list that includes remote keyless entry, power windows and doors, dual-zone climate control, and a four-speaker stereo with an auxiliary audio input. It doesn’t come with standard fold-in-floor Stow 'n Go seating. The Grand Caravan SE trim adds tri-zone climate control, standard second-row Stow 'n Go seating, and two additional stereo speakers.

The Grand Caravan SXT is a great value that offers many useful standard features for families, including a power liftgate, power-folding and heated side mirrors, dual power-sliding side doors, and power-adjustable pedals. The Crew trim adds tri-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, a 6.5-inch touch screen, remote start, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The R/T trim adds a nine-speaker stereo, first- and second-row leather-trimmed seats, and a performance suspension. The SXT or Crew trims will be most appealing to buyers.

Consider taking a look at a certified pre-owned model at your local Dodge dealer. For certified pre-owned Dodge vehicles, the original new-car powertrain warranty is extended to seven years or 100,000 miles. CPO vehicles also get a three-month/3,000-mile Maximum Coverage Care warranty. There are restrictions related to mileage and models, so read the Dodge warranty page carefully. The model's original sale date determines whether or not it is eligible for the CPO program.

2013 Dodge Grand Caravan and Other Minivans to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan or 2013 Toyota Sienna?

Between these two, most shoppers will be happier with the Toyota Sienna. This minivan’s V6 engine and accompanying transmission move it up to highway speeds quickly. The base Sienna, like the base Grand Caravan, doesn’t come with many features. However, the Toyota has an upscale interior, comfortable and spacious seating in all three rows, available all-wheel drive, and a couple more cubic feet of maximum cargo space than the Dodge minivan. However, while the Sienna’s third-row seats fold flat, its second-row seats must be removed to access the full cargo capacity.

Which Is Better: 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan or 2013 Chrysler Town & Country?

Because the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan are corporate cousins, they are the only minivans available with the convenient second-row Stow 'n Go seats. However, the Town & Country offers a lot more than the Grand Caravan. The Chrysler comes with a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, and Chrysler’s touch-screen Uconnect infotainment system. It also has comfortable seats and a soft ride.
