2019 Dodge Durango Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.5

The 2019 Durango has a generally nice interior. Higher trim levels are upscale, but even the cabins of lower-level SXT and GT are lined with soft-touch surfaces. However, many rivals exceed this vehicle in cabin luxuries. The Dodge Durango’s seats are comfortable, and its infotainment system is regarded as one of the best on the market. Cargo space is also good for the segment.

  • The materials quality is average with expected soft-touch surfaces of pleasant texture. Construction is nothing special. It doesn't look or feel as high-end as the related Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it's also nothing to be ashamed of." -- Edmunds
  • "The 2016 Dodge Durango interior belies its competitive price, as it feels much more upscale than many of its competitors, especially in the higher-end Limited and Citadel models with their heated and ventilated front seats, and heated 2nd-row seating." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "Previously, the Durango's cabin was a functional space with generally unimpeachable materials, but it lacked the design flair to truly set it apart. That's no longer the case, with a sleek new steering wheel and a reconfigurable instrument panel doing wonders to spice things up. The latter can be customized more than 100 different ways to display information ranging from navigation instructions to tire pressure." -- Left Lane News (2014)

Seating

Though it’s available as a 3-row SUV, the standard Durango is a 2-row SUV that seats five people on cloth upholstery. A third row can be added to hold six or seven, depending on whether you opt for the second-row captain’s chairs or stick with the standard bench. Numerous types of leather upholstery, ventilated front seats and power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.

The seats are comfortable, and adults can sit comfortably in the first two rows. The third row draws mixed reviews. Some say it has generous head- and legroom for adults, while others complain that it’s not particularly roomy and better left for children. There are two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connections on the second-row outboard seats and an upper tether anchor on every third-row seat.

  • "The Durango is one of the most spacious three-row SUVs. Adults can fit with comfort in all outboard seating positions, which is rare. Third-row head- and legroom are especially good. Only two seat belts in the third row mean it can fit seven people max." -- Edmunds
  • "Interior noise levels are quite low, and seat comfort in all three rows is admirable." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • Also, while the Durango's third-row seat is handy, it's far from the roomiest you'll find." -- Autotrader (2015)

Interior Features

Standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and the Uconnect infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and voice controls. Available features include a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a larger 8.4-inch touch screen, navigation, satellite radio, HD Radio, a nine-speaker Alpine sound system, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo.

The Durango’s Uconnect infotainment system is intuitive. The on-screen menus are large, and the interface responds quickly to inputs. Buttons and knobs control some functions too, giving you a variety of ways to adjust the settings.

A rearview camera is the only active safety feature that comes standard in the Durango. Options include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

  • "As always, Dodge's touchscreens, especially the 8.4-inch one, are benchmarks for user-friendliness with large virtual buttons, logical menus and helpful secondary physical controls. Everything is easy to reach." -- Edmunds
  • "The Uconnect system in Dodge (and Chrysler and Jeep vehicles) is one of the best touch-screen infotainment systems available. The latest version revamps the interface for a cleaner appearance, ups the usability, and adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "Generally considered one of the more user-friendly infotainment setups on the market, UConnect Access integrates most of the Durango's audio, navigation and climate control functions into one unit." -- Left Lane News (2016)

Cargo

The Durango has 17.2 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats. Fold down the third row, and you’ll have a total of 43.3 cubic feet. With both the second- and third-row seats folded, the Durango has a maximum cargo volume of 85.1 cubic feet. That’s a lot of space, even among 3-row SUVs. The front passenger seat folds flat to accommodate longer items, and the deep and wide cargo floor makes loading and unloading a bit easier. A power liftgate is available.

  • "With maximum cargo space that matches that of all but the largest SUVs, a useful fold-flat front passenger seat, and the highest tow ratings among its rivals, the Durango is exceptionally well-rounded when it comes to overall utility." -- Edmunds
  • Cargo space behind the third row is so-so, but the 3rd-row seats fold, and you can even fold down the front passenger seat for really long objects." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "As mentioned earlier, the Durango offers three rows of seats that can be configured in a wide variety of ways, making it possible to go from carrying seven passengers to hauling a trunk-load of plywood in mere minutes." -- Left Lane News (2016)
