2013 Dodge Dart Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Dodge Dart was new.

Interior: 7.7

Most reviewers appreciate the 2013 Dodge Dart’s roomy, well-made and good-looking cabin, which can be equipped with features such as a touch-screen navigation system and a wireless charging mat for electronics. A few reviewers dislike the touch screen that comes with the infotainment and navigation systems, though others say it is pretty easy to use. They also find that the cabin has soft materials at the most important touch points, but does have some harder plastics in areas that occupants probably won’t reach for very often.

  • "The Dart's dash top is pleasingly soft, and it flows nicely into the center stack. But like others at this price point there's hard plastic aplenty lower down. … All told, it's one of the more attractive interiors in the segment." -- Inside Line
  • "Offering abundant space, innovative style, loads of soft-touch surfaces and numerous color/trim possibilities, the 2013 Dart gets our vote for best-in-class overall cabin design." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Dart trumps other compacts with lots of high tech features like a configurable Thin Film Transistor gauge panel, available heated steering wheel and keyless entry, a huge touch screen navigation system and an enormous glove-box, as well as under-seat storage up front." -- Motor Week

Overall, many reviewers say that the 2013 Dodge Dart’s five-seat cabin has an impressive amount of space for its class, but several complain that the Dart’s seats have too much cushioning for their tastes. Reviewers agree that the Dart’s first row has plenty of room for two adults, and one test driver mentions that rear visibility is hampered by the Dart’s styling.

While some test drivers think the second-row seats fit adults comfortably, there are complaints that adults will only be comfortable on short trips. That comment, however, is typical of affordable small cars. If you use car seats, one reviewer found that a rear-facing convertible seat was easy to install with the LATCH connectors and fit well with the front passenger seat moved forward, though the seat cushions didn’t create a level platform for the car seat. This arrangement left plenty of leg space for the front passenger.

  • "It feels more like that of a midsize car than a compact, with ample front-seat space and rear-seat legroom. The seats are excellent, with the front buckets being class leaders, with good side bolstering and seat bottoms that keep you planted." -- AutoWeek
  • "The seats are comfy and plush, if a bit overstuffed in that traditional Detroit way." -- Edmunds
  • "The rear-facing convertible fit fine on the seat, but the front passenger had to move forward a little to accommodate it, though she still had ample legroom. Installing the convertible in the rear-facing position was a little trickier. The cushiony, contoured seats made it difficult to settle the child seat." -- Cars.com
  • "And the rear seat won't transport three adults for more than a few blocks." -- Car and Driver
  • "Thick roof pillars hinder the view more than they should, as do the low windows." -- Consumer Guide

Interior Features

The 2013 Dart comes standard with a four-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack, but the base model does not standard come with air conditioning or power locks, though they are optional. Available features include a USB port, SD card slot, Bluetooth and Dodge’s Uconnect Touch infotainment system, which has an 8.4-inch touch screen. Uconnect Touch can also be equipped with navigation. You can also get an optional wireless charging mat for phones and MP3 players, which is an uncommon feature in this class.

Most test drivers focus on two aspects of the Dart’s interior: the steering wheel and the navigation system. In this class, it’s unusual for so many reviewers to compliment a vehicle’s steering wheel, but more than one praises the Dart’s for being well-made and for providing good grip. Some test drivers think the infotainment and navigation systems are easy to use, while others think its menus are complicated.

  • "The steering wheel's rim contouring and grippy leather wrap are good enough to impress your average Porsche fan." -- Car and Driver
  • "We highly recommend springing for the available 8.4-inch touchscreen interface for the entertainment and navigation systems. Also found on some other Dodge models, it features easy-to-navigate menus, big touch buttons and an accompanying knob that makes whipping through iPod menus a breeze." -- Edmunds
  • "Both Darts tested had the available 8.4-inch touchscreen and navigation system. For the audio system, only the volume and tuning knobs are not incorporated into the touch screen. That sometimes makes simple station, band, or source selections difficult, but overall, this system works quite well. ... Other functions are adjusted through the touch screen, which doesn't complicate matters as much as it could." -- Consumer Guide
  • "A Garmin-based navigation system with real-time traffic and satellite radio can be added to models that have the UConnect multimedia center. The system, with its simplistic graphics, limited display and cryptic menus, is not my favorite." -- The New York Times

The 2013 Dodge Dart has 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space. Reviewers say the available trunk space is good for the class, though one reviewer says that the trunk’s hinges can squish cargo and that the trunk’s opening is too small. They are also impressed with the Dart’s large glovebox and optional storage bin under the front passenger seat.

  • "Interior storage is good throughout, with a glovebox large enough to hold a laptop computer, the front seat cushion flips up to reveal a large storage area and the door pockets all have deep storage pockets." -- AutoWeek
  • "The Dart's trunk is average at 13.1 cubic feet, but a small opening limits what you can stuff inside, and unenclosed gooseneck hinges will crush anything packed too near the edges." -- About.com
