2018 Dodge Charger Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.0

The 2018 Dodge Charger has a spacious cabin that looks good. Materials quality is generally high, but some rivals have more upscale interiors. Both rows of seats have ample space for adults, and the Charger features a user-friendly infotainment system. Cargo space is average for the class.

  • "Inviting, comfortable and functional, the interior of the … Charger is a pleasant place to spend time." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "As with other cars in the full-size class, the Charger offers plenty of interior space and cargo room; that's expected. What might not be is the number of luxury-league features available such as heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and power-adjustable pedals." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
  • "In these cheaper models, which will comprise a vast majority of Charger sales, the seats are wide and covered in rental-grade fabrics, and the aluminum trim looks duller, but the dashboard will pass the soft-touch knock-knock test, and the graphics on the info screens and dash are sufficiently upscale." -- Yahoo Autos (2015)

Seating

The five-seat Charger comes standard with cloth upholstery and a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Leather upholstery, Nappa leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and performance seats with added side support are available.

The Charger’s front seats are a great place to spend time, and they don’t get uncomfortable on long trips. Driver visibility is somewhat limited because of the thick roof pillars. The rear seats have the kind of space you want in a large sedan, and three adults can sit in the back without feeling cramped.

The Charger has three full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. The tether anchors are easy to find and identify, but the lower anchors are set deep in the seat and require a lot of force when attaching car seat straps.

  • "Front seats are comfortable for long trips, the rear bench will handle three adults and the entire well-designed presentation is also easy on the eyes." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "There's a vast amount of shoulder room in the 2016 Charger, and the front seats are as roomy as you'd expect in a full-size sedan. … The mix of leather and suede upholstery in certain models is appealing and improves support during spirited driving. Those in the rear also enjoy a wealth of hip- and shoulder room, though the massive tunnel for the driveshaft to the rear wheels compromises rear footwell space, and headroom can be tight for taller occupants." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "Visibility isn't the best. Front and side pillars are quite thick, as are the rear pillars, though the last aren't as much of a problem on models with a rearview camera." -- Consumer Guide (2015)

Interior Features

The Charger’s standard features include three USB ports, an SD card reader, a six-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and the Uconnect infotainment system with voice recognition, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 7-inch touch screen.

Available features include a sunroof, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker Beats Audio sound system, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, two additional USB ports, and an upgraded Uconnect system with navigation and an 8.4-inch touch screen.

Available active safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and rear cross traffic alert.

As part of the updates for the 2018 model year, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now come standard in the Charger. These features make it easy to sync your smartphone with your vehicle, and they aren’t standard in every rival. The Uconnect infotainment system controls most of the audio and climate functions. It has a responsive touch screen and is one of the most user-friendly systems in the class. The available Harman Kardon audio system delivers outstanding sound quality.

  • "The new fourth generation of Uconnect is one of the best automotive infotainment systems and one of the easiest to use. Maps are supplied by Garmin, and the Bluetooth connects your phone almost instantaneously. The new system's larger 8.4-inch screen also allows for phone-style navigation gestures like pinch and swipe." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "The aesthetics are further enhanced by some retro-inspired touches here and there, including the T-handle shifter for the automatic transmission. We're also fans of the 8.4-inch touchscreen interface, as it has large 'virtual' buttons, an intuitive layout and even quicker responses for 2017." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "Dodge is deftly playing up its muscle car heritage inside, with tunneled primary instrument dials bracketing a slick new seven-inch information display for the driver, with Dodge's highly acclaimed 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment screen to the right, all encompassed by a large aluminum bezel." -- Yahoo Autos (2015)

Cargo

The Charger has 16.5 cubic feet of trunk space, which is typical for a large sedan. There is a lot of small-item storage space throughout the cabin, and standard split-folding rear seats give you the flexibility to haul larger items. The trunk lid opens high, making it tough for some folks to reach and close it.

  • "The Charger's 16.5-cubic-foot trunk capacity is respectable for this class. All models feature folding rear seatbacks, so it's possible to carry bulkier items if you don't need the rear seats for passengers." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "In all models, interior storage is impressive, with a smallish 2-tiered glovebox, a couple of console bins, 2 covered cupholders, a large 2-tier console box, and map pockets with cupholders in the doors." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
  • "Trunk lid lifts too high for less-tall users to easily reach and close. And the trunk, while adequate, is space-stingy by full-size car standards." -- USA Today (2012)
