Buying Advice

Last Updated: February 6, 2020

Strong, but Falling Sales: The Dodge Challenger was one of the best-selling competitors in the sports car class last year, only behind the Ford Mustang. However, sales of the Challenger fell 8.6 percent last year compared to 2018. In addition, the Mustang outsold the Challenger by 19 percent.

High Prices: The Challenger's strong sales are surprising when considering its price. A base Challenger starts at $27,995, which is more than $1,700 above the class average. However, things really get pricey when moving up the trims. The fully-loaded SRT Hellcat will cost you $58,995 and is around $10,400 above the class average.

Time to Buy: Although it’s still selling well for the segment, lower demand for the Challenger means you may be able to negotiate a price below sticker. If you’re interested in something cheaper, take a look at the top-ranked Mazda MX-5 Miata. The best deals are likely to be found on outgoing 2019 models, since dealerships will be seeking to clear their inventories.
