2011 Dodge Caliber Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2011 Dodge Caliber was new.

Interior: 6.9

When you separate it from the competition, there’s nothing wrong with the 2011 Dodge Caliber’s interior. The front seats are roomy, and the backseats can fit two adults. The cargo area is also large enough to meet most shoppers’ needs. However, when you compare the Caliber to other hatchbacks, you see where it falls short.

  • "Beyond its good looks, the Caliber offers a roomy and comfortable interior. The materials and finish are better than usual for a car this price." -- San Antonio Express News
  • "Among competing hatchbacks and crossovers, the 2011 Dodge Caliber's interior ranks midpack. There are plenty of hard plastics inside, but a cabin makeover last year added cushioned materials in key touch points." -- Edmunds

Front Seats

Reviewers like the Caliber's front seats, which feature a chair-like seating position that makes getting into and out of the car very easy. There's also plenty of room in the front row, which pleases reviewers. There is one drawback, however. The Caliber doesn’t come with a telescopic steering wheel, which means some drivers may have difficulty finding a comfortable position.

  • "There's no high-chair feeling as in the Vibe and Matrix, in which the clutch pedal is pressed down as much as forward." -- Cars.com
  • "The Uptown driver seat is well shaped and padded. Outward visibility to all directions is restricted by thick roof pillars, especially to the rear corners. Some drivers will feel crowded by the steering wheel. A telescopic function would help, but this feature isn't available." -- Consumer Guide

Rear Seats

Like most hatchbacks, the Dodge Caliber’s rear seats will be tight for adults. Consumers looking for comfortable seating for five should try the Honda Fit

  • "The rear seats are pretty comfortable too, with firm but forgiving cushions and a decent level of lower back support. There is plenty of room for my legs and feet, ample for the hips and shoulders." -- Automobile.com
  • "Under-seat foot space is great, but Caliber's rear seat is otherwise average for room and comfort." -- Consumer Guide

Interior Features

Dodge added one option to the Caliber’s features list for the 2011 model year: a new navigation radio with SIRIUS Travel Link, which gives information on the weather, fuel prices, sports and movie listings. But even with this new addition, the Caliber’s standard features are still impressive. Other than basics such as air conditioning and an audio system, the Caliber has a standard 12-volt power outlet, an auxiliary input jack, Uconnect Phone, which is a hands free calling system, iPod control, which comes with UConnect, and a beverage storage cooler. A Premium Sound Group package is available. It includes a Boston Acoustics premium sound system with a subwoofer, two liftgate speakers and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

Reviewers aren’t super-impressed with the Caliber’s interior, but they do say it’s an improvement over earlier Caliber models.

  • "Inside, the forms are big ... the towering dash and the slab-o'-granite steering-wheel boss unchanged from those of the base car. It doesn't say 'speed' as much as 'safe for kids.' Acres of hard, high-sheen black plastic advertise the cost-cutting." -- Car and Driver
  • “The large gauges are easy to read. Simple climate and audio controls are within easy reach. The navigation system absorbs most audio functions, but it's easy to acclimate oneself. The available fold-down speakers in the tailgate are a picnic plus." -- Consumer Guide

The 2011 Dodge Caliber has a good amount of cargo space. With five passengers, the Caliber can hold 18.4 cubic feet of luggage or groceries, and with the rear seats folded, that number increases to 47.4.

  • "Caliber's cargo room is larger than that of a typical hatchback, but smaller than some compact wagons. The open liftgate won't clear a 6-footer's head. Note that all models include a roomy, chilled glovebox compartment. Storage provided by the center console and front door pockets borders on too small to be really useful." -- Consumer Guide
