Aside from decent safety scores and a roomy interior, the 2009 Dodge Avenger is a run-of-the-mill used car that trails its competition with uninspiring driving dynamics and inferior interior quality.
The 2009 Dodge Avenger's #19 ranking is based on its score within the 2009 Affordable Midsize Cars category. Currently the Dodge Avenger has a score of 6.9 out of 10, which is based on our evaluation of 48 pieces of research and data elements using various sources.
The 2009 Dodge Avenger ranks toward the bottom of 2009 midsize cars thanks to its budget interior materials and bland performance. In 2009, the Avenger’s trunk was considered smaller than most of its rivals’, and reviewers consistently complained about cheap, hard plastics, wide panel gaps and poor fit and finish. Test drivers said all three of the Avenger’s engines were loud and unrefined, and two of the three were underpowered. They also disliked its stiff suspension and artificial steering feel, as well as brakes that weren’t up to the task at hand.
The 2009 Avenger does have some good attributes though. The Avenger has plenty of cabin space, even for taller passengers. Another thing reviewers liked when it was new was that it was fairly well-equipped, offering a standard tilt and telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, satellite radio and an auxiliary audio jack. The Avenger’s optional navigation system and stain- and odor-resistant seat fabric were also well-liked by reviewers. Its fuel economy, at up to 21/30 mpg city/highway, is about average for the class.
Six airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system are standard on the 2009 Avenger, while anti-lock brakes are standard on all but the base model. Electronic stability control, traction control, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation were optional features on most trim levels, so check to see if the used 2009 Avenger you’re considering has them if they’re a priority for you. The front-wheel drive Avenger features a four-cylinder engine standard, while a V6 is available.

The highly-ranked 2009 Ford Fusion’s exceptional safety score, along with its roomy interior and trunk, make it a great used family sedan. The base 2009 Ford Fusion isn’t as fuel-efficient as the base Avenger, but the automotive press agreed that its dynamic handling makes it more engaging to drive. Another benefit is that the 2009 Fusion was available with all-wheel drive on V6 models.
When it was new, auto critics said the 2009 Hyundai Sonata’s spacious interior was one of the most upscale in the class, and they also liked how roomy the trunk was. They also were pleased with the power in both the base four-cylinder engine and the more powerful V6.
