Nissan Recalls 747,000 SUVs and Trucks

Posted: October 29, 2010

Toyota and Honda aren’t the only automakers issuing recalls. Nissan is recalling 747,000 trucks and sport-utility vehicles in the United States.

Affected vehicles include the: “2004-2006 Nissan Armada, Titan and Infiniti QX56 built between August 2003 and May 2006. 2005-2006 Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder and Armada built between Aug. 24 and June 2006,” reports KickingTires.

According to Nissan, the vehicles are being recalled due to an electrical relay in their electric control modules that may experience silicon vapor. “Over time, this vapor could create oxidation on the electrical contacts in the relay that may lead to engine performance issues, including the possibility of stalling at low engine speeds,” explains CNN.

To know if your car is affected by the recall, check its build date -- which should be stamped on a sticker placed in the driver-side door jamb. If your vehicle is affected, Nissan will replace the relay free of charge beginning in December 2010, according to documents released from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Owners with questions may call Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-800-327-4236.
