Is the Chrysler Voyager a Good Minivan?

Yes, the new Voyager is a good minivan. This Chrysler boasts a quiet cabin with ample front-seat space. It also comes with a solid list of standard technology features, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, its powerful V6 engine delivers good fuel economy. However, some of its competitors offer more overall passenger space and cargo room.

Should I Buy the Chrysler Voyager?

The Voyager is worth your consideration if you’re looking for a van with modern features at a good price. It has many similarities with the Chrysler Pacifica and is basically a low-budget version of its corporate sibling. While the Pacifica has a higher price than the Voyager, it offers standard safety tech like blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, as well as available features like navigation.

The Honda Odyssey is another worthwhile contender, as it delivers one of the most engaging rides in the class.

Should I Buy a New or Used Chrysler Voyager?

The Chrysler Voyager is a new minivan for the 2020 model year, but it essentially mirrors the two lowest trims of the 2018 and 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. That means you may be able to find a feature-rich used Pacifica that is less expensive than a new Voyager.

Be sure to read our 2018 Pacifica and 2019 Pacifica reviews to help make your decision. Also, check out our Used Car Deals page to learn about savings and discounts you can find on used vehicles.

Chrysler Voyager Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: Chrysler Voyager or Chrysler Pacifica?

The Chrysler Pacifica has a lot in common with the Voyager. In fact, the Pacifica's lower trims are nearly identical to the Voyager's two available trims. These minivans also feature the same 287-horsepower V6 engine, and each boasts a comfortable ride and good fuel economy.

If you're interested in the base Pacifica, the Voyager might be a better bet. All you have to do is add the low-cost SafetyTec package to the Voyager’s base trim, and you'll have a vehicle that's just as well-equipped as the base Pacifica but for less money. For those looking for ample available features, go with the Pacifica. It costs more, but it also has exclusive features like available Stow 'n Go second-row seats, which are not available in the Voyager.

Which Is Better: Chrysler Voyager or Honda Odyssey?

The Honda Odyssey is one of our top-ranked minivans. While the Odyssey doesn’t have as many standard features as the Voyager, it makes up for it with roomy, comfortable seating in all three rows. It also has a larger overall cargo capacity than many class rivals, including the Voyager. The Odyssey is the better van, but if it doesn’t fit your budget, go with the Voyager.

Voyager Interior

How Many People Does the Voyager Seat?

In its standard setup, the Voyager seats seven people in three rows. Two second-row bench seats come standard. Two second-row bucket seats are available, helping create an aisle for passengers to easily get in and out of the third row. The first row features spacious seating, but passenger room in the Voyager's first and second rows isn’t as abundant as that of its competitors. The third row has space for three passengers, but these seats are best left for children.

Voyager and Child Car Seats

The Voyager comes with four complete sets of LATCH connectors, with two sets for both the second- and third-row seats.

Voyager Interior Quality

The Voyager's interior is nicely built and features several soft-touch surfaces. There are a few hard plastics used throughout the cabin, however.

Voyager Cargo Space

This Chrysler has less cargo space than some class rivals, but it still provides plenty of room. The Voyager has 32.3 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 87.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 140.5 cubic feet overall.

The Voyager comes standard with third-row Stow 'n Go seats that fold down into the floor. This allows you to maximize your cargo capacity without having to remove the seats.

Voyager Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The Voyager's Uconnect infotainment system features an easy-to-use touch screen as well as physical buttons and knobs to adjust the audio and cabin climate. The system comes standard with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch touch screen, a USB port, Bluetooth, and six speakers. Optional features include satellite radio and a rear overhead DVD player.

The front-wheel-drive Voyager delivers 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. These are good figures for a minivan. Both the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica deliver the same gas mileage figures.

The Voyager is a comfortable minivan to drive on a daily basis thanks to its composed handling and smooth ride. Some reviewers say the Voyager rides more like a large sedan than a minivan. Front-wheel drive is standard.

The SafetyTec Group package and tri-zone automatic climate control are available for the same prices as in the L trim. Also available are a rear overhead DVD player ($995) and the Cold Weather Group package ($495), which adds heated front seats, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and remote start.

The Final Call

The 2020 Chrysler Voyager is essentially a budget-friendly version of the Chrysler Pacifica. As long as you’re not looking for the Pacifica’s lengthy list of standard and available features, the Voyager makes a great value pick in the minivan class. It has a gentle ride, good fuel economy, and an easy-to-use infotainment system.

Don’t just take our word for it. Check out comments from some of the reviews that drive our rankings and analysis.
