2012 Chrysler Town & Country Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country was new.

Interior: 8.1

The 2012 Chrysler Town & Country has a spacious cabin filled with kid-friendly features, and has an innovative selection of seating arrangements.

  • "Most interior materials have a premium look and feel. Padded door armrests, high-quality nicely grained plastics, and classy analog clock and faux-chrome trim lend a luxurious ambiance to the interior." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Comfortable seats and a generous roster of practical and luxury features make Chrysler's minivan ideal for most anything from taking a trio of couples out to dinner to getting a dining room table home from the furniture store." -- Edmunds
  • "The Town & Country has room for up to seven people in three rows. The dashboard uses low-gloss, nicely grained materials that make the cabin seem more luxurious." -- Cars.com

The 2012 Town & Country seats seven passengers and features Stow n’ Go seating. With this system, the second-row seats fold into the floor, allowing you to maximize cargo space. You can also go for optional luxury second-row captain’s chairs which don’t fold, but offer more padding. Overall, reviewers say the seats are comfortable in all rows, though a few reviewers complained about legroom for the driver.

  • "Several Edmunds editors of different heights noticed that the driver seat and pedals are mounted too close together, even when moved to the widest setting offered by the power adjustments." -- Edmunds
  • "Having succeeded in part on the strength of its Stow 'n Go second-row seats - which fold into bins in the floor - Chrysler improved the feature last year by giving the seats one-touch operation and making them larger for better comfort." -- Cars.com
  • "The 2nd-row seats are roomy and supportive, though mounted a bit low, so adults ride in a slight knees-up position. The 3rd-row bench can accommodate 2 passengers comfortably, but three adults will feel cramped." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Of all the high-end features in the Town & Country--automatic high-beams, remote start, even a heated steering wheel--we found most overrated the $320 luxury second-row seats, which are robust captain’s chairs with a pair of armrests. They’re perfectly comfortable but lack the slick fold-flat feature of the standard Stow ‘n Go second row.” -- Car and Driver
  • "Stow-n-Go seating has been significantly improved to address customer concerns with backrest comfort; a captain’s-chair arrangement is available as well for the truly upscale family. All three rows are well-trimmed and spacious, with the biggest improvements to be found in the front seats." -- Left Lane News

Interior Features

For 2012, all trims of the Chrysler Town & Country get a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. It’s the only van in the class to offer standard rear-seat entertainment. In addition to the rear-seat DVD system, reviewers like that the Town & Country has a lot of available high-tech features, including Uconnect, which can turn the van into a rolling Wi-Fi hotspot.

Overall, reviewers say the features are easy to use, though adding more features, like Uconnect, can complicate the controls.

  • "Large gauges are easy to read. Central-control-panel buttons have simple markings that are easy to see at a glance. Thankfully, the climate system's fan speed is regulated by a rotary dial instead of repetitive push buttons. When equipped with Chrysler's Uconnect infotainment system, some audio functions can be more involved than they need to be, though steering-wheel audio controls help. The CD player and its associated buttons are mounted very low on the dash with very small markings, requiring a far look from the road to operate. The shifter is mounted on the dashboard, but doesn't block access to any of the controls." -- Consumer Guide
  • "There are power outlets in the back to keep the juice flowing for a gaming device connected to the dual DVD entertainment system, which can include Sirius Backseat TV. Rear-seat entertainment systems (with headphones) are truly gifts from the heavens for any long-haul road trip." -- The Detroit Free Press

There are lots of storage spaces in the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country. When the second-row seats aren’t folded into the floor, there are available in-floor bins for stowing toys and other gear. There’s a deep center console in the front row, and, when the second-row seats are folded, the Town & Country has 143.8 cubic feet of cargo space. With all seats in use, it has 33 cubic feet of space.

  • "Unlike other minivans that require the awkward removal of the middle-row seats to achieve maximum cargo capacity, the Chrysler's Stow 'n Go seats fold flat into the floor. Operating these surprisingly comfortable seats is fairly simple, as only a quick tug of a strap and a few gentle yanks are required to make them disappear into the floor." -- Edmunds
  • "In addition to the plethora of storage bins and cubbies scattered over the interior, the center console has many storage compartments of different sizes. The underfloor bins for the Stow 'n Go seats can be used as storage when the seats are deployed. The process of folding the 2nd- and 3rd-row seats into the floor can be complicated, but this feature is a welcome convenience not offered on rival minivans. With all seats folded, the resulting cargo area is cavernous. The 3rd-row bench can be folded backwards for tailgate seating, but note that this function is intended only for use when the vehicle is parked." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The center console prevents the driver from crawling into the back of the van with any ease. Precocious brats take note: Dad actually will have to park and get out of the van to administer justice, should you fail to knock it off." -- Car and Driver
