2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Review

By U.S. News Best Cars Staff May 13, 2015

The 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser is at the bottom of the barrel with a low safety score, small cargo space and poor fuel economy compared to the rest of the class.

The 2010 PT Cruiser has a base four-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. Test drivers said the PT Cruiser is fine for around-town cruising, but it has weak performance on highways and hills. At 19/24 mpg, fuel economy isn’t high for the class. Reviewers said the steering is responsive and the handling is stable. However, test drivers said the PT Cruiser has a large turning radius, which makes navigating tight spaces tough.

Reviewers disliked the hard plastic materials used in the 2010 PT Cruiser, and the retro styling of the interior received mixed reviews. Reviewers said the seating is comfortable for most people, but three adults in the back seat will be a bit tight. There’s 21.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat, which is small compared with other classmates, and 62.7 cubic feet of space when the second row is folded down. A stereo system with a CD player and auxiliary input, cruise control and an analog clock are standard on the PT Cruiser. Optional features when it was new include satellite radio, a moonroof, heated front seats and a six-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support.

The 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser has a low safety score compared to classmates.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR has retro styling and a better safety score than the PT Cruiser. It also doesn’t use as much fuel.

Reviewers liked the luxurious interior of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen and its two available engines. Both the base and diesel engines have high fuel economy numbers for the class. The Jetta SportWagen also has a larger cargo space than the PT Cruiser.
