2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Performance

U.S. News Best Price Program

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Performance Review

Performance: 8.2

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid offers a good combination of engine power and fuel efficiency. The ride quality is good, but the handling could be a little sharper.

  • "You get the bonus of quiet all-electric operation at low speeds, though the Hybrid's V6 engine can be noisy when it's running." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "On the Interstate it is capable of easy, quiet cruising." -- Consumer Guide (2019)
  • "Of the Pacifica versions, we think the Hybrid is actually the best to drive. Besides saving you a ton in gas, the added weight from its battery further improves the handling, settles the ride and smooths out acceleration." -- Autotrader (2019)

Acceleration and Power

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and two electric motors that make a combined 260 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) are also standard. Acceleration from a stop is swift, and the gas engine kicks in to provide additional power when needed. The CVT mimics the shifts of a traditional automatic transmission pretty well.

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 82 MPG equivalent and 30 mpg combined city/highway in hybrid mode. Those estimates are great among the minivan class. Its all-electric range of 32 miles is also great for a vehicle of this size.

  • "If you go with the Pacifica Hybrid, you’ll get a smoother and surprisingly competent electrically variable, continuously variable transmission (CVT). … We prefer the Pacifica Hybrid over the standard Pacifica, as its electrified powertrain offers a smooth and powerful boost, even when the EV range is depleted. Transitions between the gasoline engine and electric motor are seamless." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "There's only a total of 260 horsepower, and the Hybrid weighs more than a regular Pacifica. Even so, acceleration from a stop is brisk thanks to the electric motor's added low-end torque output." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The transmission is an 'electrically variable' unit without the feel of stepped gears. The 3.6 doesn’t kick in until a concerted need for power arises, and the Hybrid doesn’t have quite the off-the-line zip of its all-gas brethren—though it generates enough instant torque to spin the front tires on damp pavement." -- Consumer Guide (2019)

Handling and Braking

The Pacifica Hybrid has a comfortable ride, easily soaking up bumps in the road. Handling is composed, but steering is numb and has limited feedback. The regenerative brakes are smooth for the most part, though some drivers may need some time to get used to the feel.

  • "The Pacifica delivers the kind of ride minivan drivers expect: quiet, powerful enough, and one without unpleasant surprises." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "It handles easily (even if the steering is somewhat numb) and rides smoothly on most surfaces. The Hybrid’s braking suffers a bit from the same lack of initial feel at the pedal that plagues so many electrified vehicles with regenerative energy capture." -- Consumer Guide (2019)
  • "Considering the Pacifica Hybrid's substantial weight, handling is fine as long as you don't do your best Mario Andretti impression. Body roll is kept in check, and it makes it around corners well, even if the steering doesn't feel all that precise. Midcorner bumps are dispatched with few issues." -- Edmunds (2019)
