2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Performance Review

Note: This performance review was created when the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid was new.

Performance: 8.1

The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has balanced performance overall, with good acceleration and stable handling around corners. It also has a comfortable ride and a history of good fuel economy.

  • "The Pacifica Hybrid goes down the road comfortably and with poise. It's seldom bothered by small or large road imperfections. Dipping a wheel into a pothole sends a shudder through the cabin, but there's little jostle when the wheel returns." -- Edmunds
  • "Unique to the minivan world, the Pacifica Hybrid offers … excellent fuel economy thanks to an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain that can run up to 33 miles solely on electric power. With a combined mpg city/highway rating of 84 MPGe (32 mpg on gasoline only), it's the most fuel-efficient minivan on the market." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)

Acceleration and Power

The Pacifica Hybrid comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and two electric motors that combine to make 260 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and an automatic continuously variable transmission are also standard. Fuel economy estimates are not available for the 2019 Pacifica Hybrid at the time of writing.

Acceleration is swift from a stop, and the transitions between electric and gas power are barely noticeable. However, at higher speeds, the engine can be loud.

  • "There's only a total of 260 horsepower, and the Hybrid weighs more than a regular Pacifica. Even so, acceleration from a stop is brisk thanks to the electric motor's added low-end torque output. … You get the bonus of quiet all-electric operation at low speeds, though the Hybrid's V6 engine can be noisy when it's running." -- Edmunds
  • "Despite being heavier and delivering less horsepower than the regular Pacifica, the Pacifica Hybrid accelerates with determination. That's thanks to peak torque that's immediately available because of the electric motor. When the all-electric range has been reached, the system switches from electric to regular hybrid mode seamlessly." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "Chrysler's new Pacifica and Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid are way ahead of rivals like the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey, with the hybrid offering similar acceleration and an easily achievable 33 miles of electric-only range." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)

Handling and Braking

The Pacifica Hybrid has poised handling with controlled cornering abilities. The ride is comfortable, and the regenerative brakes operate smoothly.

  • "In regular driving, the brakes are easy to modulate with a short pedal travel, and they have good feel and response for a vehicle with regenerative braking. … Considering the Pacifica Hybrid's substantial weight, handling is fine as long as you don't do your best Mario Andretti impression. Body roll is kept in check, and it makes it around corners well, even if the steering doesn't feel all that precise. Midcorner bumps are dispatched with few issues." -- Edmunds
  • "On the open road, the Pacifica's handling isn't sporty, but it is competent, with a very comfortable ride, firm steering and excellent brakes. In sharp curves, the Pacifica will lean a bit, but not so much that it feels like a Slinky creeping down a set of stairs." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "With the batteries under the second-row seats, the Pacifica Hybrid has a bit lower center of gravity than the gas-only Pacifica. It feels more stable in the corners. The extra heft also smooths out the ride a bit more, too. Not that the regular Pacifica's ride quality isn't good, but the Hybrid's is just a bit better." -- Autotrader (2018)
