Is It Better to Buy a Used or New Pacifica Hybrid?

The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid starts at $39,995. You can spend thousands of dollars less by shopping for a used model, though there are some big perks to buying new. For 2018, Chrysler added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the 2018 model year (previously unavailable). The 2018 Pacifica Hybrid also comes standard with blind spot monitoring and rear parking sensors, which were optional the year before. If these are must-have features, you may want to opt for the 2018 model. Better still, if you qualify for the federal electric vehicle tax credit (up to $7,500), you may be able to buy a new Pacifica Hybrid for around the same price as a used model.

It offers all the perks of the hybrid model but with lower fuel economy (19/28 mpg). The 2018 Kia Sedona starts at $27,000 and has a posh interior with an intuitive infotainment system. The 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan has an even lower starting price of $26,250, but you’ll want to avoid this poorly rated model.

Which Model Year of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Is Best?

The Chrysler Pacifica minivan debuted for the 2017 model year, replacing its aged predecessor, the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country. Because the current Pacifica Hybrid received no mechanical changes between the 2017 and 2018 model years, you can save money with a used model while still finding comparable performance. That said, you’ll want to look for a 2018 model if you want Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Neither of these popular systems were available in the 2017 model.

Certified Pre-Owned Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Warranty

Certified pre-owned vehicles offer added peace of mind, though they cost a bit more than uncertified models. For its CPO vehicles, Chrysler extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Chrysler CPO vehicles also get a three-month/3,000-mile Maximum Coverage Care warranty. There are restrictions related to mileage and models, so read the Chrysler warranty page carefully. This is one of the more comprehensive certified pre-owned programs among non-luxury automakers, according to our analysis.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid or 2017 Honda Odyssey?

Like the Pacifica Hybrid, the 2017 Honda Odyssey is a top-ranked minivan. The Odyssey offers more cargo space than the Pacifica Hybrid, and used models are typically less expensive to buy. Both vans have brisk engine performance, refined handling, comfy first- and second-row seats, and great infotainment features. The Pacifica’s big benefit is its superb fuel economy, with the Honda getting a comparatively low 19/27 mpg. Both are fine options in this class.

Which Is Better: 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid or 2017 Toyota Sienna?

The 2017 Toyota Sienna is also a fine option, and it distinguishes itself from all other minivans with its available all-wheel-drive system. The Sienna also offers more cargo space than the Pacific Hybrid, and used models are often less expensive. Each van boasts user-friendly tech features, a roomy cabin, and a comfortable ride even on rough roads. However, the Sienna’s 19/27 mpg rating can’t match the Pacifica’s fuel economy.

2017 Pacifica Hybrid Performance

How Does the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Drive?

The Pacifica Hybrid has a 3.6-liter V6 engine and two electric motors, which yield a combined 260 horsepower. A lithium-ion battery pack, a continuously variable automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive are standard. The Pacifica’s electric motors can power the minivan along for 33 miles using electricity alone. The gas V6 joins in once the batteries run low or even earlier if extra muscle is required. Overall, this hybrid system works great. The Pacifica gets up to speed briskly around town in either mode, and it offers fine passing power at highway speeds. The transitions between both driving modes are smooth and quiet.

Despite all the hybrid equipment adding a few hundred pounds to the vehicle’s weight, the Pacifica Hybrid is especially fun to drive for a minivan, with good stability when rounding turns. The steering is quick, and the turning radius helps the van scoot through tight parking lots. The suspension soaks up rough pavement nicely. If there is a drawback, the van’s brakes feel a little touchy, which is a fairly common critique of hybrid vehicles.

Does the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Get Good Gas Mileage?

The Pacifica Hybrid offers great fuel economy. It has an all-electric driving range of 33 miles, and it returns an EPA-estimated 32 mpg in mixed city/highway driving when operating in hybrid mode. The EPA rates the Pacifica’s electric efficiency at 84 MPGe. To learn more about that rating, check out our article What is MPGe?

You can plug in the Pacifica to recharge its battery pack. A full charge using a 240-volt outlet takes about two hours.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Towing Capacity

The Pacifica Hybrid is not rated to tow. However, the nonhybrid 2017 Chrysler Pacifica can tow up to 3,600 pounds when properly equipped.

How Many People Does the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid Seat?

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has seven seats. The first and second-row seats are the most supportive and comfortable, but all three rows are roomy and capable of seating adults. In the third row, however, the seats aren’t as comfy or as adjustable as the first two rows. That said, these Stow ‘n Go seats fold conveniently into the floor, making it easy to convert the Pacifica from passenger van to cargo hauler.

The cabin is practical and well put-together, with a crisply styled dashboard, many soft-touch surfaces, and generous sound insulation to keeps the interior quiet. Cloth upholstery comes standard; heated, ventilated, and leather seats are available.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid?

The Pacifica has four full sets of LATCH connectors for installing child car seats. There are two sets in the second row and two more in the third.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Features

The 2017 Pacifica Hybrid comes standard with an 8.4-inch touch screen, a rearview camera, USB ports, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Siri Eyes Free connectivity. The standard Uconnect infotainment system’s sharp touch screen has simple menus, and it reacts quickly to inputs. The audio and climate controls are also accessible using buttons and knobs located under the screen, making it easy to adjust settings out on the road. A navigation system is optional.

Chrysler’s available rear-seat entertainment system (Uconnect Theater) is a big perk for back-seat passengers. It includes two 10-inch touch screens that are mounted on the back of the front seats. The screens can play DVDs and Blu-ray discs, connect to video game consoles via an HDMI port, and even display onboard game apps like checkers and tic-tac-toe.
