2008 Chrysler Aspen Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2008 Chrysler Aspen was new.

Interior: 7.9

The 2008 Chrysler Aspen's five-seat (eight-seat-optional) interior receives mixed reviews. Though our analysis shows the Aspen has comfortable front seats and good storage, the second and third rows are uncomfortable. Those factors combine to earn the Aspen a good interior score, but the interior isn't as nice as others in the class; the Aspen's interior ranks in the middle of the class.

The Aspen has a three-passenger third-row seating option that makes it possible for eight passengers to ride. The amount of storage space is excellent, but leg room in the second row can be tight. Edmunds reports "With the same basic layout as the Durango, the Aspen's cabin has the same strengths and weaknesses."

Reviewers find that the first row of the Aspen offers comfort for both the driver and front passenger, provided the driver isn't too small. Cars.com reports "front seats are comfortably wide, though the cushioning felt a bit firm for my taste. A standard eight-way power driver's seat offers plenty of travel in all directions. The steering wheel tilts but doesn't telescope; its fixed position, extended quite far from the dashboard, may prove too close to shorter drivers."

Interestingly enough, reviewers say the middle row suffers from lack of space and the optional third row that offers the most room in this car. As Cars.com reports, "The fixed second row is positioned fairly close to the front seats, so legroom is a bit tight. The payoff comes in third-row legroom, which I found especially generous given what's normally offered in this segment." Kelley Blue Book agrees and says "Getting in or out of the third row doesn't demand the nimbleness of a gymnast, and those consigned to the third row won't feel slighted."

Interior Features

Standard interior features include a power sunroof, power-adjustable pedals, remote start system, GPS, steering wheel controls, an AM/FM/CD six-disc CD stereo with a navigation system, and SIRIUS satellite radio. For the most part, reviewers found switches and buttons adequate. Cars.com says, "The instruments and controls are easy to see and use, though the manual air conditioning had an outdated blue-to-red slider -- especially inconvenient if you're trying to adjust the temperature over a bumpy road."

With the maximum eight passengers on board, cargo capacity in the 2008 Chrysler Aspen is 20 cubic feet. Both third- and second-row seats fold flat, and storage space increases to 68.4 cubic feet and 102.4 cubic feet, respectively - which Edmunds calls "impressive." Kelley Blue Book, however, warns, "Lift-over height in back is low, and the opening is usefully wide, but those over six feet tall will need to duck under the liftgate door when loading luggage or lumber."
