The 2019 Chrysler 300 comes with a standard V6 and offers an optional V8. Both engines feel powerful and move this big sedan with ease. The V6 also gets decent fuel economy. However, the 300's athleticism is up for debate. You may have to test drive it to see how you think it handles, as test driver opinions vary widely.

Acceleration and Power

The 300 comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 292 horsepower (300 horsepower in the 300S). This engine moves the car with ease and provides more than enough power for any driving situation. A smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission is standard.

For more power, you want the available 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine that produces 363 horsepower. While the base engine has ample power, the V8 has more verve, and it’s the engine that more enthusiastic drivers will prefer.

With the base engine, the 300 gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Those are comparable to the ratings that V6-powered rivals get. As you might guess, the V8 is less efficient, earning 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

Handling and Braking

The 300 comes standard with rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is available. Ride comfort is the priority here, and the 300 generally has a smooth ride. This Chrysler's handling draws mixed reviews. Some argue that it feels engaging on winding roads, while others say it isn’t nimble and that there’s noticeable body lean when cornering.
