Reviewers say that the 2013 Chrysler 300 offers competent power from its base V6 and optional V8 engines, as well as a comfortable ride and composed handling. The 300’s eight-speed automatic transmission also draws praise for improving performance and fuel economy.

Acceleration and Power

The 2013 Chrysler 300 comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that generates 292 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 363-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine and five-speed automatic transmission are optional on 300S, 300C and 300C Luxury Series models. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional with either powertrain. The EPA reports that the base Chrysler 300 gets 19/31 mpg city/highway, which is on par with cars like the Ford Taurus and Hyundai Azera. Models with all-wheel drive or a V8 engine use a bit more fuel.

If you’re looking for more power, the high-performance Chrysler 300 SRT8 features a 6.4-liter V8 engine that generates 470 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 470 pound-feet of torque at 4,300 rpm. Chrysler says that the 300 SRT8 will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds with a top speed of 175 mph.

Reviewers say that the 300’s V6 engine and eight-speed automatic provide an excellent balance of power and fuel economy. They note that the automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and that the V6 engine has enough power to keep most drivers happy. If you want more power, one reviewer writes that the optional V8 engine delivers swift acceleration, and says that it’s well-matched to the five-speed automatic transmission.
