2021 Chevrolet Trax Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 6.5

The 2021 Chevrolet Trax has a respectable amount of passenger and cargo space and a solid list of standard infotainment features. However, rivals have more upscale cabins and more-supportive seats.

  • "Soft-touch plastics and a digital/analog instrument cluster help make the cabin of the Chevrolet Trax a generally agreeable and workable environment." -- Kelley Blue Book (2020)
  • "Comfortable seats are the high point." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Hard plastics are used liberally throughout the cabin including much of the Trax's door cards, part of the console, most of the infotainment and HVAC systems, as well as the centrally mounted shifter, which feels quite cheap." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Cargo

The Trax has 18.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back row and 48.4 cubic feet with the 60/40-split-folding rear seats folded down. These numbers are average among subcompact SUVs. The front passenger seat can fold down, which makes it easier to stow long items.

  • "If it’s just you and one other person and some gear, cargo room is respectable. There’s up to 48.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, and a useful 18.7 cubic feet with them up. But the Trax lags rivals like the HR-V, Seltos and new Trailblazer in total cargo capacity. The Trax has a nifty feature in which the front passenger seat folds flat to accommodate items up to 8 feet long in the interior." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • The Trax's second row offers a 60/40-split folding rear seat, which, when combined with the fold-forward front passenger seat, can accommodate items up to eight feet long. It seems sized right for a day of impulse shopping at the local bulk membership store." -- Autotrader (2020)
  • "Cargo volume is less than what some competitors offer, with maximum cargo space of only 48.4 cubic feet. The rear seats are at least easy to fold, and the fold-flat front seat provides extra space for longer items." -- Edmunds (2019)

Seating

Up to five people can fit inside the Chevy Trax. It has a solid amount of head- and legroom in both rows, and two adult passengers should fit comfortably in the rear. However, the seats are narrow and not very supportive.

Cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats are standard, while deluxe cloth upholstery, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are optional.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

  • "Rear passengers will find more room in a Trax than in some rivals." -- Kelley Blue Book (2020)
  • "Passenger comfort is hampered by a harsh ride quality and narrow, unsupportive seats. The rear seat is a little claustrophobic, and there's less cargo room than in a Volkswagen Golf hatchback." -- Edmunds (2020)
  • "Given the Trax's small outside shadow, rear seat accommodations are commendable. The seat provides adequate space for two adults, with relatively good leg and head room. The seat is hard, however, with a short bottom cushion that limits support for the long haul." -- Consumer Reports (2018)

Interior Features

The Trax comes standard with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. It features a user-friendly 7-inch touch screen, and there are handy physical dials to control the climate settings.

Other standard features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, Bluetooth, six speakers, voice command, two USB ports, remote keyless entry, and a rearview camera. Available features include cruise control, remote start, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.

  • "Also up front, the Trax has a standard 7-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dash and simple dials to operate climate controls." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Controls are down to a minimal number, just the right amount of what you need rather than all those extras you think you need. The handsome instrument cluster features a large gauge display with an analog speedometer and tachometer readouts and a driver info window sits within the same binnacle." -- Autotrader (2020)
  • "Chevy's MyLink system is easy to learn, and combined with OnStar, provides a robust set of features." -- Edmunds (2019)
