2015 Chevrolet Traverse Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse was new.

Interior: 8.0

Automotive journalists report that the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse's cabin is incredibly spacious. It has outstanding cargo capacity for the class and an adult-friendly third row. Reviewers write that the Traverse is quiet and built with first-rate materials, adding that top-trim levels feel quite posh.

  • "Inside, the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse features a roomy interior with handsome styling and better-quality materials than those found in earlier models. The overall effect gives the space a look and feel that ranges from pleasant to downright upscale in the top LTZ trim level." -- Edmunds
  • "The cabin includes soft-touch materials on the dash and on the upper doors which create an upscale feel." -- Left Lane News
  • "The interior is commendably quiet, which means front-row occupants don't have to turn around and shout at the third-row; normal tones are possible, even if they get no results." -- Automobile Magazine (2013)
  • "In the realm of people movers, the Chevrolet Traverse is one of those vehicles whose design makes sense the instant you enter the cabin." -- Road and Track (2013)

The 2015 Traverse seats up to eight with a middle-row bench, while available second-row captain's chairs reduce seating capacity to seven. In either configuration, the second-row seats slide back and forth. A heated steering wheel, leather seats and heated and ventilated front seats are optional. According to reviewers, the first two rows of seats offer plenty of space, though some dislike the low seating height in the second row. The third row also has adult-sized space, provided the second row isn't positioned too far rearward.

  • "Front-row passengers will enjoy abundant head- and legroom, as will second-row occupants, but the middle-row seat cushions are a bit low. Sliding those seats all the way back alleviates this issue, but effectively kills third-row legroom. The slide release is also difficult to access. The third row is actually roomy enough for adults to fit in comfortably (as long as second-row occupants are generous), though it's realistically best suited for those of smaller stature or children. This is especially true if you want to fit three across." -- Edmunds
  • "One of the best traits about the Traverse is that it's big enough for adults to sit in the third row and still boast enough room behind the seats for groceries." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Among the largest midsize SUVs, Traverse's cabin feels especially roomy. Big, supportive seats make for good long-trip comfort." -- Consumer Guide (2012)

Interior Features

The 2015 Chevy Traverse comes standard with a rearview camera, Bluetooth phone connectivity, satellite radio, a USB port and a 6.5-inch touch-screen audio system. Options include forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, navigation, Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system, a 10-speaker Bose audio system and a rear-seat entertainment system. For the 2015 model year, MyLink includes Siri Eyes Free, which integrates iPhones with the SUV's infotainment system and enables the use of voice prompts to listen to and respond to text messages, answer and make phone calls and make music selections.

Reviewers indicate that the available rear-seat entertainment system, as well as the abundance of cup holders, make the Traverse a very family-friendly vehicle. Some auto journalists complain about the low positioning of the display screen on the center stack, and find that the MyLink controls are sometimes sluggish to respond.

  • "Clearly designed with the comfort of large families in mind, the interior can be ordered with up to 12 cupholders and a DVD entertainment system." -- Left Lane News
  • "The camera's image and infotainment system controls are displayed on a 6.5-inch touchscreen that's mounted a little too low on the dash to view with a quick glance and surrounded by touch-sensitive secondary buttons that may look vaguely interesting, but are less functional than normal buttons. The occasionally slow response of the MyLink system to your inputs is another drawback." -- Edmunds
  • "Although we weren't fans of the wood trim and awkward combination of blue contrast stitching in our particular test vehicle, this new interior did help set off the beautiful new 6.5-in. color touchscreen interface of the Chevy MyLink infotainment system." -- Road and Track (2013)

The Traverse offers more overall cargo space than most other midsize SUVs, and even a bit more space than some large SUVs. There is 24.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 70.3 cubic feet with the third row folded and a maximum of 116.3 cubic feet behind the front row of seats. Test drivers are impressed with the Traverse's cargo-carrying capability, adding that there is sufficient space for groceries behind the third row, as well as a useful storage compartment beneath the load floor.

  • "Cargo capacity is one of the Traverse's strong suits, though, with a healthy 24.4 cubic feet available behind the third-row seats, not counting a handy underfloor storage bin. Folding down those rearmost seatbacks is a quick and easy way to open up 70.3 cubic feet of space behind the second row. Lowering both rows of seatbacks creates a spacious cargo hold with a flat load floor and 116.3 cubic feet of room, a total no other crossover (besides the Traverse's twin, the GMC Acadia) can match." -- Edmunds
  • "One of the best traits about the Traverse is that it's big enough for adults to sit in the third row and still boast enough room behind the seats for groceries." -- Kelley Blue Book
