2009 Chevrolet Traverse Overview

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is a great SUV for families, according to reviewers who raved about it when it was introduced. Along with its corporate cousins, the 2009 Saturn Outlook, 2009 GMC Acadia and 2009 Buick Enclave, the Traverse stands out with an especially cavernous interior, sleek styling, an adult-friendly third row and a smooth ride. Plus, the Traverse’s fuel economy and safety ratings are better than many competing SUVs.

Still, the Traverse won’t be the right SUV for everyone. It can’t tow as much as SUVs that offer V8 engines, and its all-wheel drive system isn’t the best for those who plan to take on hardcore off-roading. Additionally, shoppers who don’t need the third row of seats can find five-seat SUVs with better fuel economy.

The base Traverse comes with folding second- and third-row seats, OnStar, satellite radio and an auxiliary input. Options when it was  new and features on higher trims include parking sensors, Bluetooth, a power liftgate, tri-zone climate control, a backup camera, leather, heated and cooled front seats, navigation and an upgraded stereo.

Other Cars to Consider

If you need a family SUV with more towing and off-roading capacity than the Chevrolet Traverse, consider the 2009 Ford Explorer. Test drivers agreed that it’s one of the best traditional SUVs on the market, and the Explorer offers a V8 engine for those who want more power. The Explorer has a lower safety rating than the Traverse.

The 2009 Toyota Highlander has a particularly smooth ride, and it ranks well in its class with a good safety score. Reviewers appreciated the Highlander’s flexible seating and available third row, as well as the base model’s great fuel economy.
