2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe was new.

Interior: 8.2

The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe has a comfortable and practical interior.  The base model is fairly well-equipped, and with the right options the Tahoe can become a near-luxury vehicle. However, the Tahoe loses points for how difficult it is to remove the third row of seats.

  • "High marks to upscale, contemporary cabin ambience." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Slide inside the cabin and you'll find attractive materials and outstanding build quality." -- Edmunds
  • "We were also struck by the Tahoe's quiet cabin and its inviting, upscale interior." -- Kelley Blue Book

The Tahoe can seat up to nine people. Most reviews say the seating is comfortable, but the third-row seat is best left to kids -- something that's typical for this class. If you're looking for an adult-comfortable third row, check out the Toyota Sequoia and Ford Expedition. Both get high marks from reviewers for their third rows, but keep in mind that the Sequoia starts at about $2,000 more than the Tahoe. The Expedition, however, starts at about $2,000 less.

  • "Bench or bucket, the [front] seats are supportive. Generous headroom and legroom, though the bench seat's cramped center position should be reserved for emergency situations."  -- Consumer Guide
  • "Seats are firm, you sit on top of them, and they lack bolstering, which works against holding you in place during the occasional cornering maneuver, but it does make sliding in and out easy." -- Car and Driver
  • "If a bench seat is chosen for the second row, the seat is wide enough to install three child safety seats side by side. Herein lies my biggest complaint: Although there's plenty of room, Chevy has chosen to put only two sets of Latch connectors in this car (one in the center position and one on the right side). What about families with triplets? What about families with three kids under the age of 6?" -- Mother Proof

Interior Features

Most reviewers like the 2011 Tahoe's interior, saying that the materials are high-end and build quality is excellent.  Standard features on the base Tahoe include dual-zone climate control, an AM/FM/CD player with satellite radio (including a three-month subscription) and MP3 capability and an auxiliary input jack.  Buyers can opt for features like adjustable pedals, Bluetooth, a power tailgate and a rear view camera.

  • "Cabin materials are significantly improved, with softer surfaces and tighter gaps and tolerances on all panels, the center stack, and gauges. Even the carpet fasteners have been hidden, giving the floor a better-finished, seamless appearance." -- Motor Trend
  • "Build quality is excellent, gaps between parts have shrunk to just about nothing" -- Car and Driver

The Tahoe's interior is not only expensive-looking and comfortable, it's also practical. The Tahoe has an impressive amount of cargo space, provided the third-row seat is removed, and reviews note many handy interior storage compartments. However, the third-row seats don't fold flat into the floor; to extend the cargo area, they must be removed. Many reviewers report that removing the seats is difficult because they're so heavy. If you need storage space that's easier to access, check out the Ford Expedition. Its third row seats fold flat into the floor.

  • "One notable shortcoming concerns the Tahoe's standard third-row seats. These seats must be removed manually, and their hefty weight makes the process laborious." -- Edmunds
  • "The rear seats can be muscled out of the car, but they're heavy and awkward." -- San Francisco Chronicle
  • "With both rows stowed, maximum cargo volume is 108.9 cubic feet, which beats the Armada and Durango and nearly ties the Expedition. With the third-row bench in place, cargo volume falls to 16.9 cubic feet." -- Cars.com
