2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe was new.

Interior: 8.2

The 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe has a comfortable and practical interior. However, the Tahoe loses points for how difficult it is to remove the third row of seats.

  • "High marks to upscale, contemporary cabin ambience. Assembly quality on all models tested shows strong attention to detail." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Slide inside the cabin and you'll find attractive materials and outstanding build quality." -- Edmunds
  • "We were also struck by the Tahoe's quiet cabin and its inviting, upscale interior." -- Kelley Blue Book

The Tahoe can seat up to eight people.  Most reviews say the seating is comfortable, but the third-row seat is best left to kids--something that's typical for this class.

  • "Bench or bucket, the seats are supportive. Generous headroom and legroom, though the bench seat's cramped center position should be reserved for emergency situations."  -- Consumer Guide
  • "Seats are firm, you sit on top of them, and they lack bolstering, which works against holding you in place during the occasional cornering maneuver, but it does make sliding in and out easy." -- Car and Driver
  • "If a bench seat is chosen for the second row, the seat is wide enough to install three child safety seats side by side. Herein lies my biggest complaint: Although there's plenty of room, Chevy has chosen to put only two sets of Latch connectors in this car (one in the center position and one on the right side). What about families with triplets? What about families with three kids under the age of 6?" -- Mother Proof
  • "Getting back to the third row is somewhat awkward, but, more important, any adults consigned to it will ride with their knees up around their chins because the seat is very low."-- Newsday

Interior Features

Most reviewers like the 2009 Tahoe's interior, saying that the materials are high-end and build quality is excellent. A few experts, however, noted problems with the interiors of their test vehicles.

A navigation radio with voice recognition, AM/FM radio and CD/MP3 player functionality is optional with the Tahoe's 1LT, 2LT and LTZ trims. But you might be able to get a comparable unit that will serve you well in or out of a vehicle. Check out our GPS reviews to learn more about the best portable navigation systems and the key features to have.

  • "Cabin materials are significantly improved, with softer surfaces and tighter gaps and tolerances on all panels, the center stack, and gauges. Even the carpet fasteners have been hidden, giving the floor a better-finished, seamless appearance." -- Motor Trend
  • "Build quality is excellent, gaps between parts have shrunk to just about nothing" -- Car and Driver

The Tahoe's interior is not only expensive-looking and comfortable, it's also practical. The Tahoe has an impressive amount of cargo space, provided the third-row seat is removed, and reviews note many handy interior storage compartments. However, the third-row seats don't fold flat into the floor; to extend the cargo area, they must be removed. Many reviewers report that the process is awkward.

  • "Spacious with the 3rd-row seat removed. Adequate for a single row of grocery bags behind the 3rd-row seat. Folded 3rd-row seatbacks rest well above the level of the rear load floor, complicating loading of larger items. Third-row seats unlatch easily but are heavy and cumbersome to remove." -- Consumer Guide
  • "A Ford Expedition holds more, and so does the Tahoe's big brother, the Suburban." -- Newsday
  • "One notable shortcoming concerns the Tahoe's standard third-row seats. These seats must be removed manually, and their hefty weight makes the process laborious." -- Edmunds
  • "The rear seats can be muscled out of the car, but they're heavy and awkward." -- San Francisco Chronicle
  • "With both rows stowed, maximum cargo volume is 108.9 cubic feet, which beats the Armada and Durango and nearly ties the Expedition. With the third-row bench in place, cargo volume falls to 16.9 cubic feet." -- Cars.com
