2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid was new.

Interior: 7.6

The interior of the 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid offers seating for eight, a high-quality cabin and lots of standard features, but reviewers say its third row is seriously subpar.

  • "High marks for Tahoe's upscale, contemporary cabin ambience. Assembly quality on all models tested shows strong attention to detail. Though soft-touch surfaces are scarce, the cabin's plastic textures lend impressive substance.” -- Consumer Guide
  • "The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid's cabin is nearly identical to that found in the regular Tahoe, meaning it boasts an upscale design with high-quality fit and finish.” -- Edmunds

Like its gas-only counterpart, the 2012 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid can seat up to eight people in three rows of seats. That’s the most any hybrid on the market can fit, though it’s equal to most other luxury large SUVs. Test drivers say that the first two rows of seats are comfortable for the most part, but the third row is a different matter. It’s barely big enough for kids.

  • "Bench or bucket, the seats are supportive. Generous headroom and legroom, though the bench seat's cramped center position should be reserved for emergency situations. … The 3rd row is best left to children; its low-to-floor cushion forces knees-up discomfort for anyone else.” -- Consumer Guide

Interior Features

Reviewers are impressed with the 2012 Tahoe Hybrid’s well-built interior and high-quality materials. It comes with a wealth of standard features, including a nine-speaker Bose premium sound system, an auxiliary audio input, a voice-controlled DVD navigation system, tri-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Tahoe Hybrid has a fuel efficiency gauge that lets drivers see how their driving style impacts their fuel economy averages.

  • “Hybrid's navigation screen features a helpful energy flow display that indicates when the vehicle is in gas V8 mode, complete electric mode, or electric-assisted gas 4-cylinder mode. Likewise, the efficiency gauge in the upper left corner of the instrument panel indicates the most efficient braking range to capture regenerative braking energy to charge the battery.” -- Consumer Guide
  • "The layout of its controls is straightforward and their operation, intuitive -- including the standard touchscreen navigation system." -- Edmunds
  • "We like the seat sew patterns, the soft leather seating option and the elegant dash with its blue-backlit controls and white-backlit instruments with glowing red indicator needles.” -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid can hold up to 108.9 cubic feet of cargo behind the front row, or 60.3 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row. There’s only a scant 16.9 cubic feet behind the third row, or about enough room for four or five bags of groceries. Reviewers unanimously complain about the heavy, bulky third-row seats, which must be removed in order to make use of all the Tahoe’s cargo space. All of the Tahoe’s competitors, except for its corporate twin, the GMC Yukon, include fold-flat third-row seats.

  • "When it comes time to load up with cargo, those 50/50-split rear seats don't fold away conveniently like those in most competitors; they can be heavy and awkward to remove, and must be stored elsewhere. Once out, though, there are 109 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity available, making the Tahoe one of the roomiest hybrids on the market.” -- Edmunds
  • "Adequate for a single row of grocery bags behind a raised 3rd-row seat. Folded 3rd-row seatbacks rest well above the level of the rear load floor, complicating loading of larger items. Third-row seats unlatch easily but are heavy and cumbersome to remove. Cabin storage is enhanced by large center console bin. Roomy door pockets are found in front, but not in the rear.” -- Consumer Guide
