Buying Advice

Last Updated: June 13, 2019

Falling Sales: Sales of the Chevy Suburban rank mid-pack among large SUVs this year, behind some alternatives like the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Suburban sales have dropped 7.6% this year compared to the same span in 2018.

Higher Than Average Price: The Suburban's base price of $50,800 is higher than most in the class. However, when compared to the base price of other extended-wheelbase models (like the GMC Yukon XL and Ford Expedition Max), its price is competitive.

Time to Buy: If you’re looking for an extended-wheelbase large SUV, the Suburban is a top choice. However, if you don't need the extra space, consider the standard sized Chevy Tahoe, which costs $2,800 less. Alternatively, consider the midsize Chevy Traverse, especially if you don’t need the Suburban or Tahoe’s towing abilities. Despite being a midsize SUV, the Traverse actually boasts more than 100 cubic feet of cargo space and a starting price that’s just below $30,000. The Traverse also is the winner of our 2019 Best 3-Row SUV for Families award.  Deals on all three options are on our Chevy deals page.
