2015 Chevrolet SS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Chevrolet SS was new.

Interior: 7.7

The inside of the 2015 Chevrolet SS is attractive and built with first-rate materials, reviewers say, and some note that overall fit and finish is Cadillac-like. Still, a few critics think that some of the metal trim is too flashy and looks out of place in the SS. They note that the standard MyLink infotainment system is user-friendly and say it is easy to use MyLink’s voice recognition system for making a phone call, selecting music or inputting a destination into the navigation system. Reviewers say the SS offers ample passenger space in the front and rear seats, and its trunk is decently sized for the class.

  • "Leather trim and suede-like material add visual and tactile interest to the otherwise simple layout." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Cleanly designed, the dashboard is finished with soft-touch materials, and two bucket seats with the SS logo stitched into the seat back come standard up front. Ice blue ambient lighting and two types of chrome trim add a premium touch to the appearance." -- Left Lane News
  • "The mix of perforated leather, gray suede, red stitching, and minimal hard plastics wouldn't be uncouth in a Cadillac. The polished-aluminum center stack and steering-wheel accents are the only touches that strike us as over the top." -- Car and Driver (2014)
  • "The dash is covered in leather and suede (or at least convincing facsimiles of the real thing) and feels of quality. The same can be said of the center stack, though some may find its two-tone metal finish a bit too blingy." -- Autoblog (2014)

The Chevrolet SS seats five and comes with leather upholstery, heated front seats, ventilated front seats and power-adjustable front seats. Reviewers note that the front seats are supportive and spacious, and that there is ample legroom in the back seats.

  • "With ample room for up to five passengers, the SS' interior is better equipped than its performance-oriented drivetrain might suggest." -- Left Lane News
  • "The Chevy SS pursues performance but never forgets it's a people-carrying sedan. This is evident in the interior, which offers generous legroom for all. The front seats are supportive and offer ample headroom, though headroom is more limited in back." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Whether you plan to haul full-size adults or install child seats you'll find enough space to accommodate your needs. Rear access, thanks to wide door openings, doesn't hurt, and neither does a massive 16.4-cubic-foot trunk." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "The heated and ventilated front seats are appropriately bolstered to combine ample grip with a thorough range of rake and backrest adjustment. There's a proper dead pedal, and the plastic shift paddles are ribbed for a satisfying feel." -- Car and Driver (2014)

Interior Features

Standard features in the Chevrolet SS include navigation, Bluetooth, a USB port, Chevy's voice-controlled MyLink infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a head-up display, a rearview camera, OnStar with 4G LTE and an integrated Wi-Fi hot spot, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring. A power sunroof is optional.

According to auto journalists, the controls in the SS' center stack are intuitively laid out, and test drivers comment that there are plenty of buttons and knobs for performing common functions without using MyLink. Reviewers say that MyLink's voice recognition system is straightforward and like that you don't have to memorize specific commands to use it.

  • "Controls for audio and climate functions are easy to identify and operate." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Dashboard knobs and buttons mounted on the three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel gives users alternate options for controlling MyLink, and there is also a voice recognition system for hands-free calls, destination entering, song selection and more. Its 'natural language' capability can recognize a staggering number of phrases - effectively eliminating the need for clunky and cumbersome memorized commands." -- Left Lane News

The 2015 SS has 16.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is good for the class. Test drivers are impressed with the size of the SS’ trunk, saying there’s ample luggage space for longer trips. The back seats do not fold down, but there is a pass-through for long, narrow items.

  • "The 16.4-cubic-foot trunk is generous, but with fixed rear seats, oversized cargo is limited to whatever can fit between the pass-through." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The spacious, well-equipped interior will seat five real people, and the 16.4-cubic-foot trunk will happily swallow enough luggage for a long road trip." -- Automobile Magazine (2014)
