2020 Chevrolet Spark Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 6.1

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark's interior is filled with low-quality materials, and lots of road noise is present in the cabin. There's good space in the front row, but the Spark is short on rear-seat passenger space and cargo room. The Spark has a solid amount of tech and a user-friendly infotainment system, but it doesn't have some common features like power door locks and windows in its standard setup.

  • "There are some cheap plastics, sure, and more sound insulation would have been nice, but this is one of the least expensive new cars available." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Yes, the Spark is small, but its interior layout is functional. The high roofline gives it decent access and visibility. But other subcompacts offer more rear legroom." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Same goes for the interior, which certainly isn't plush but also isn't insultingly cheap." -- Consumer Reports (2018)

Seating

Up to four people can fit inside the Spark. The front seats are spacious for the class, but the rear seats are pretty tight. Additionally, lateral support is lacking in the front row, and the driver's seat is too upright and not very adjustable.

Cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats are standard, while synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats are optional.

For securing child safety seats, the Spark has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear seats.

  • "Despite its compact dimensions, the Spark is surprisingly roomy in the front seat, with plenty of leg, hip, shoulder and headroom, even for taller drivers and passengers. However, the second row lacks ample legroom and doesn't even pretend to have a middle seating position." -- Autotrader
  • "The 4-seater 2020 Chevy Spark does well for headroom, but legroom for rear passengers is always going to be tight in a subcompact hatchback. However, those rear seats split and fold in the usual 60/40 manner, so there’s some versatility for people and/or cargo." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "While it's noisy, the Spark compares favorably with other cars in the class. The seating position is upright, with minimal lateral support. The rear seats are best suited to smaller passengers." -- Edmunds (2019)

Interior Features

The Spark comes standard with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports, a four-speaker stereo, and Bluetooth. Available features include power door locks and windows, cruise control, remote keyless entry, push-button start, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, a six-speaker stereo, and satellite radio.

The Spark's infotainment system features easy-to-use menus and crisp graphics. Three dials for controlling climate functions are located below the touch screen.

A rearview camera comes standard. Several other safety features are available, including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, and forward collision warning.

  • "All Spark models include a 7-inch-color touchscreen in the center stack and logically arranged climate-control dials." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The infotainment system adds to the Spark's modern vibe. The menus are intuitive, and the graphics are sharp. The touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. You can also get onboard Wi-Fi through the OnStar system." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Controls are easy enough to use. All trims come with a touch-screen infotainment system that enables connectivity with Bluetooth pairing and steering wheel controls. Compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a welcome feature, allowing easy access to some apps, including navigation, via the car's screen." -- Consumer Reports (2018)

Cargo

With 11.1 cubic feet of room behind the back row and 27.2 cubic feet when the 60/40-split-folding rear seats are down, the Spark has below-average cargo space for the subcompact car class. Additionally, the rear seats don't fold completely flat, which limits flexibility.

  • "Folding the seat is a little disappointing, as the load floor is not flat, which compromises utility." -- Autotrader
  • "However, those rear seats split and fold in the usual 60/40 manner, so there’s some versatility for people and/or cargo. Speaking of cargo space, with both rear seats up, there’s 11.1 cubic feet -- enough for a couple of suitcases. Fold both of them down and the Spark offers 27.2 cubic feet." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "There's minimal cargo room with the rear seat in use. But fold the seats down, and there's enough storage to tackle the typical sorts of errands that suit this subcompact hatchback." -- Edmunds (2019)
